Meet Penelope! Affectionately called Nellie by her fosters, she is such a sweetheart. Nellie is a wonderful combination of silly and playful, energetic and well-mannered, independent and cuddly. She will be a great addition to some lucky person’s home and pack. Her foster mama says " You couldn’t ask for a better housemate than Nellie. She sleeps through the night in her crate (but would love to snuggle under the covers with you if you let her!). She is also fine in her crate when we leave the house or have visitors. She picked up potty training quickly and does well with a consistent schedule. She likes to chew, almost always on toys. If she picks up something she shouldn’t, she’s happy to trade for a toy or authorized chew. She can be a bit shy at first. Once she gets to know you, though, she’s a sweet little friend, wanting to be close to her people and the action. She sits next to me all day while I’m working and follows us around the house. She does alert bark, which may require some ongoing training to minimize. She has been great with our resident critters. From the first introduction, she was calm and interested but respectful of our senior cat. The cat is not very interested in interacting with Nellie, and Nellie gives her space; they coexist without incident. With our big, young, energetic dog, she was initially intrigued but cautious. After a few weeks, they have become the best buddies, enthusiastically chasing one another, wrestling, and sharing toys. Nellie plays hard and naps hard. She loves thrashing her stuffies, chasing balls, and squeaking squeaky toys. She will happily play with you, another dog, or on her own. She would love to have a yard to run around in, but is also quite happy to play indoors. She also enjoys couch time and loves to hang out near her people. Nellie does well on a leash, especially when walking with her foster brother – he gives her confidence and helps her find the best places to sniff. She can pull and would benefit from continued training. Nellie enjoys meeting other dogs, although overly pushy or energetic dogs can be overwhelming and she may need to meet them a couple of times before she fully trusts them. On walks she likes sniffing all the smells, picking up pinecones, and trying to catch moths. Delivery trucks and other loud vehicles are not her favorite things; she’ll try to make a beeline for home if things get too noisy, but she’s generally fine if I pick her up and carry her until it’s quieter. She also does great in the car!" Penelope is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. Her adoption fee is $450. We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495. Thank you for stepping up to save a life!
