My story

Meet Corduroy!Corduroy is a ~2-year-old large mixed breed who came to ACC after being left behind in an apartment. With no known history, this shy pup is slowly showing us his gentle, thoughtful side. He's a bit unsure at first but is food-motivated, accepts light petting, and walks nicely once he warms up.My Ideal HomeCorduroy will do best in an experienced, adult-only home that understands fearful dogs. A calm environment, predictable routines, and plenty of patience will help him adjust. He'll thrive with adopters or fosters who use force-free, reward-based training and give him space to decompress at his own pace.Good with Kids?Recommended adult-only (no children under 13) due to fearful behavior and sensitivity to handling.Good with Other Pets?In shelter greetings, Corduroy has been soft-bodied and neutral when meeting another dog at a gate. Any introductions should be slow, structured, and closely supervised. Cat history unknown.Leash MannersCorduroy pulls lightly but checks in with his handler and sits for treats. He has been observed to hard-stare and pull toward dogs or people, though he can be redirected with squeaky sounds. A front-clip harness and reward-based training will set him up for success.Overall HealthVaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative. Currently being treated for shelter cough and eating well. Not yet neutered.Behavior DeterminationLevel 3. Corduroy has displayed fear-based behaviors in the shelter, including tense body language, tucked tail, and hard stares when pressured.
