My story

**Note: Currently, Maru is in Korea, but he will fly to Toronto on Jan 25 upon adoption. Background It was heartbreaking to learn that Maru spent five long years in a city pound. When we first met him, he was very timid and fearful of strangers. He sat quietly in a corner, watching people move around, unaware that his life was about to change after waiting for so long. Maru was finally rescued and moved to our partner boarding house along with other rescue dogs. Since then, he has been living a peaceful and quiet life, gently coexisting with the other dogs around him. For the first time, he is learning what safety and calm truly feel like. Personality and socialization Maru is an introverted, quiet, and shy boy with a sweet and loving nature. All he needs is time and patience to feel safe in a new environment, and once he does, his gentle heart truly shines. He enjoys staying close to his humans without being demanding. He is not affectionate, but he has his own gentle way of showing love. His presence is calm and comforting, and his trust, once earned, is very special. With other dogs, Maru is very gentle and friendly. He tends to be on the submissive side and does best with calm, well mannered dogs. Loud, overly energetic, or dominant dogs can make him uncomfortable but he will bare. Behaviour Maru has always been quiet and well behaved. He is shy but at the same time polite at the vet and does well during baths and car rides. On walks, he can be timid at first, but once he trusts his person, he walks nicely on leash and follows their lead calmly. He has not shown any signs of separation anxiety or destructive behavior. Maru is patient, and mellow, especially once he feels secure with his humans. Health and diet Maru is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. He has been dewormed and is on monthly parasite prevention. Maru also has a mild heart murmur. It is not heart disease, but regular monitoring will be needed to ensure he stays healthy. He currently eats dry food and has shown no signs of allergies. Ideal home Maru would do best with someone who has rescue experience, is patient, and understands how to communicate with a timid dog. A calm home with a gentle routine would suit him best. Having another friendly and gentle dog in the home would greatly help him settle and feel more confident. A quiet home, preferably away from a busy city environment, would be ideal for Maru. He is not looking for anything extraordinary. All he needs is someone who can wait for him, give him time, and offer patience without pressure. Once you earn Maru’s trust, you will become his favorite person in the world, and his quiet loyalty will be deeply rewarding. ------------------------------ For more info about the dog or the adoption application, please follow the link below. https://www.freekoreandogs.org/dog/maru-4/
