My story

Sally is a 7-year-old American Cocker Spaniel who is learning what it means to feel safe, loved, and understood after a difficult start to life. Like many dogs who come from a breeding background, the world can still feel overwhelming to her at times, especially around unfamiliar people or fast-moving sights and sounds. With gentle guidance and patience, Sally is slowly discovering that home can be a calm and comforting place. At her core, Sally is incredibly sweet and deeply people-oriented. She truly prefers human companionship over canine company and thrives on affection from the people she trusts. Once she feels safe, she loves being close, soaking up pets, and simply sharing space with her person. She wants to please and has a warm, affectionate nature that shines through more and more each day. For a dog who has missed out on consistent love, her desire to connect is both touching and rewarding. Sally is still working through some challenges that stem from fear and uncertainty rather than defiance. She is working on housetraining and continues to learn with consistency and routine. Crate time can be stressful for her, though having a calm presence nearby helps her settle. She can become anxious around other dogs, especially when resources like toys or attention are involved, and she may guard items or people she values. Sally has recently discovered her inner counter-surfer and is convinced unattended tables are snack buffets, so consistent redirection, positive training, and maybe fewer goodies on the coffee table will be part of the plan for her house.Sally also startles easily and is uncomfortable with fast movement, bikes, or busy environments. These behaviours are her way of asking for understanding, structure, and time as she builds confidence. Sallys ideal home is a quiet, predictable environment with patient adopters who understand fearful dogs and are committed to helping her feel secure. A home without other dogs would be best, though a very calm, respectful dog who gives her space could be considered. She would do best without children, or with older, dog-savvy kids who can move calmly and respect her boundaries. Sally is looking for someone who sees her not for her fears, but for the loving, loyal companion she is becoming. With compassion, consistency, and kindness, Sally has so much love to give, and she will give it wholeheartedly to the person who earns her trust. Please visit our website www.preciouspawsrescue.ca to submit an adoption application.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Sally, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
