Hi, I’m Abby — and I’m Looking for My Forever Home Hello there, friend. My name is Abby, and I wanted to tell you my story myself, because, well… I’m a shepherd, and we always have something to say. I have a lot of love to give, a big personality, and I’m hoping my next chapter is my forever one. About two years ago, I was adopted from Central Arizona Animal Rescue, and I was so excited to finally have a home of my own. I imagined walks, belly rubs, and someone who would always be there. For a while, things were okay—but then my person moved out of the county and didn’t take me with him. Instead of coming along, I was left behind with a friend while he tried to find me another home. Unfortunately, that home never came, and eventually, I found myself needing help once again. When I was left with my owner’s friend, I wasn’t in the best shape. You see, when I was first adopted, I was already carrying some extra weight, and my adopter had been asked to help me slim down with proper portions and exercise. That didn’t really happen, and by the time I arrived at my temporary home, I weighed around 110 pounds. That’s a lot for a girl like me. I was so overweight that even walking was hard, and my body just didn’t feel like it should. Thankfully, this friend cared enough to help me out. He took me to the vet, made sure all my vaccinations were up to date, and got me help for my allergies—which make me itchy and uncomfortable. He also helped me start eating the right amount of food, and with his help, I’ve already lost about 30 pounds. I still have more to lose, but guess what? I can walk comfortably again, and I’m feeling better every day. That’s a big win in my book. Next, the rescue plans to run more tests to figure out exactly what I’m allergic to. Shepherds like me are often sensitive to certain foods, and until you test, it’s hard to know what’s causing all that itching. I’m hopeful we’ll get answers soon—because I’d much rather spend my time enjoying life than scratching all the time. Now, let me tell you about me, not just my backstory. I am very friendly with people and absolutely adore human companionship. I bond deeply, and I love being part of the conversation. In true shepherd fashion, I’ll let you know what I’m thinking—sometimes with a look, sometimes with a little commentary of my own. I’m affectionate, expressive, and loyal to the core. Right now, the rescue hasn’t been able to test how I do with other dogs. I can’t be kenneled with them yet because we need to carefully control my food (turns out I really like snacks). So for now, I’m focusing on getting healthy and showing everyone just how sweet I am. Oh—and you might hear people call me “Flabby Abby.” I promise, it’s said with love. I’m working hard to turn that nickname into just “Abby,” the happy, healthy girl who finally found her forever family. If you think you might be that family—or if you’d just like to meet me and see if we click—I’d love that more than you know. Please have your human email mike@caaronline.org to set up a meeting. I’m a real sweetheart, a great dog, and I’m ready for a fresh start. Maybe that start is with you. PLEASE e-mail (do not call) mike@caaronline.org for more information and to set up an appointment to adopt. Do not e-mail us with a request to call you, if you have a question, please ask in the e-mail. All dogs are adopted on a first come - first served basis.
