**IF THIS LISTING IS STILL POSTED THIS DOG IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. NO NEED TO EMAIL ASKING IF THE DOG IS AVAILABLE. PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS BIO THOROUGHLY AS INFORMATION ON HOW TO APPLY IS CONTAINED IN THIS LISTING** For Adoption: Larkin! Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. To apply for adoption and for more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. Isn’t he adorable? This is Larkin and he is a 5mth old cream coloured long haired Miniature Dachshund. Larkin came to us from a backyard breeding situation where he was unwanted and deemed disposable because he has an underdeveloped eye. We took Larkin in to give him a secure future and the promise of a loving forever home. Larkin is a sweet pup, perfect for all the dachsie lovers out there. His eye causes him no issues and needs no medical intervention, it just gives him the permanent look of giving you a jovial wink! Larkin is currently around 6lbs with some growing to do still, he will be around 8 to 12lbs full grown. He is a total love of a pup and will make a great companion. Another unique personality trait of his, is that his loves your feet. You will never have to guess where he is in your home, he is constantly underfoot; as you’re walking he is in between your legs, if seated he will be laying on your feet. If you want another shadow, Larkin could be the pup for you! For this reason though, he would not be suitable for the elderly or visually /physically impaired persons as he poses a huge tripping/accident risk. In Larkin’s foster home there is a dog, cat, and small children. He gets along well with our (dog savvy) cat and does not chase him. He would love to play with our dog if she allowed, but is respectful of her boundaries. He absolutely loves the attention he gets from the kids and plays endlessly with them. He has been in foster care only a short time, so has not yet met other dogs or small animals. A home with another small to medium sized dog would be fine, but not necessary. We won’t consider a home with an active large breed dog in it though, as Larkin is small and fragile…he can get harmed too easily with rough play from a big dog, and as a Dachshund, we have to be always careful about his back and not to damage it. Crate training and house training have been going well but both still a work in progress. If he has an accident, it is usually by the door he goes out as he doesn’t have a signal for us yet if he has to go. He is crated overnight, for meals, and the short times he his home alone. After a short settle in period, he rests well. He will bark occasionally in the night, but quiets back down to sleep. He needs to keep up his crating routine in his forever home to have that security and a place to call his own. Larkin is a playful puppy and enjoys running around and playing with his toys. He has enjoyed meeting every guest and is friendly and welcoming with strangers. He is an absolute cuddle bug and loves nothing more than cuddling with his people. Anyone interested in Larkin needs to live within 1hr of Cambridge, Ont as he must be returned to our vet later on to be neutered. He will be adopted out on a contract that stipulates this and it is mandatory. This is covered in the adoption fee. We will only consider homes Larkin where someone is home or has the capabilities to come home throughout the day. Puppies need to be taken outside for bathroom breaks very regularly when they are small and will not be able to hold it for an 8hr work day. Please keep in mind that if you work from home you need to have a plan in place for a crating schedule for the pup as puppies need 100% of your supervision when not in their crates; you cannot expect to work and have the puppy running around in the room with you as they won’t have your full attention. We are also looking for a family that is fully aware of the time commitment of a puppy and the work involved. Puppies are a total joy and bring so much love and happiness into a home, but you cannot underestimate the work and time involved in raising a puppy properly. They need constant supervision while young to expedite the house training stage and to ensure they aren’t chewing on anything inappropriate. Lastly, we are looking for a person or family for Larkin that has prior Dachshund experience or are well versed in the Dachshund breed. This breed of dog has specific medical needs, as all breeds do, and we need to make sure that they are placed with people who are well versed in the breed and committed to his care. Anyone interested in Larkin needs to be aware of the spinal issues that Dachshunds can face and have the means and ability to care for him should he experience an issue down the road. This can be expensive should he face spinal issues so pet insurance or some other pre planning needs to be in place. This is not to say he is ever going to have an issue, but responsibly, when taking on a Dachshund, it needs to be planned for. We will be expecting our adoptive family to attend at minimum, level 1 obedience school with Larkin. The guidance and lessons learned in classes are very important to getting your pup off to a good start. He is a very smart puppy and Dachshunds are confident and bold dogs and he needs a confident handler. If you have been thinking about adding a dachsie puppy to your family and have the time and patience to properly raise a pup then he may just be perfect for you. We know you will fall in love with him as deeply as we have when you meet him. Name: Larkin ID # PDR1467 Age: 5mths Gender: male Neutered: will be UTD vaccines: yes Breed: LH Min.
