My story

Lucas- Needy Lover Gentleman Material I'm another one of the Freedom Frenchie Rescue “Stranger Crew” members from the breeder release of 11. I'm about 2 years old and around 28 pounds, and I'm still figuring out what life looks like outside of the only world I ever knew. Everything is pretty new to me—new people, sounds, routines, toys, and places—and I'm taking it all in slowly, one day at a time. A Little Old Man Vibe My foster family says I kind of look like a tiny old man, and honestly I think that might be accurate. I'm pretty chill and laid back most of the time. I'm not super hyper or wild—I mostly go with whatever is happening around me and observe things quietly. Right now I keep to myself a bit while I figure things out, but my foster family is excited to see my personality bloom as I get more comfortable. The Food Situation When I first arrived, I barely ate during my first week. That's pretty common for dogs who have just left breeder environments. Everything felt overwhelming and I needed time to adjust. The good news is I'm eating well now and settling into a normal routine. Learning What Toys Are I didn't really know what toys were when I first got here. I'm still not completely sure what you're supposed to do with them, but I'm starting to explore them a little more each day. Who knows—maybe one day I'll become a toy expert. My Foster Dog Situation I live with my Frenchie foster sister Cardi and we are besties! It took her some time to get use to me but now we share toys! Yea did you hear that I figured out what toys are finally! There is also a boxer in the house and I'm still unsure about him. When I see him through a gate or the window I sometimes bark and react. My foster family isn't sure if it's a big dog thing or just this particular dog, so for now I'm separated from the other dogs except Cardi. My Crate Comfort I'm actually very comfortable in my crate. A lot of dogs from breeder situations spend a lot of time in crates so it feels familiar to me. Sometimes I do something funny though—I kick all the beds and pads to the side and sleep right on the crate floor instead. Potty and Routine I'm doing great with keeping my crate clean and haven't had accidents in it. In the mornings I bark to let everyone know I'm ready to go outside right away. My nighttime barking has improved a lot too and my separation anxiety is getting better each day. Learning the Outside World I'm learning how to walk on a leash and I'm actually doing really well with it. One place I've discovered that I really enjoy is the dog park. It's a big world out there but I'm slowly realizing it might not be so scary after all. What I Know So Far I already know my name and I respond when my humans say 'no.' I'm also starting to understand 'down.' I had a bath when I first arrived and did very well—apparently I'm a pretty polite gentleman. My Favorite Human I'm completely obsessed with my foster dad. My foster family calls him a bit of a dog whisperer and I trust him a lot. If I could sit in his lap all day long I absolutely would. Now that I've had a taste of love and attention I really crave it. Still Learning to Trust I'm still a little bit of a nervous guy and that's okay. Dogs like me have never been socialized and have never left the property we lived on before rescue. Trust takes time, but every day I get a little braver. My Perfect Home My ideal home will understand that I'm still learning about life. I'm a gentle, quiet guy who needs patience, structure, and love while I build confidence. Right now I might remind you of a sweet old man who likes to relax, but my foster family believes my real personality is still waiting to shine through. Lucas is vaccinated, microchipped and neutered, his adoption donation fee is $1250.00. Currently he is being fostered in Phoenix, AZ and you can apply for him at freedomfrenchierescue.org. *Please Note: All learning and guidance must continue in their new home. A dog’s behavior can change with a new environment and energy, and every family’s dynamic is different. What works or is allowed in one foster home may not be the same in yours, so consistency, patience, and continued training are key to their success.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Lucas, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
