My story

Sweetheart is the kind of dog who doesn’t demand attention, but somehow ends up with your whole heart anyway. At 5 months old, this tall and graceful Great Pyrenees girl is still growing into her destiny to be a possible 80 pounds girl.  She is currently  28 pounds and expected to become a stunning adult. Her name means “beautiful girl,” and it suits her not just because of her looks, but because of the calm, loving way she moves through the world. Her life didn’t begin with comfort or consistency. She was originally bought to be a guardian dog for a farm in rural Tennessee. Placed outside with no real interaction from the owner, she was with another older Great Pyr who was already working the farm.  Out of boredom, Sweetheart, started chasing the cows on the property.  This was infuriating and unacceptable to the farmer/owner and so he threatened to shoot her. The local shelter in that county asked Critter Cavalry Rescue to take her in to foster care before her life was ended so tragically.  When CCR rescue stepped in, she arrived shy but has quickly blossomed in to a calm and gentle soul that loves children and likes meeting new adults. That alone says everything about the kind of soul she has. Now in a foster home experienced with Great Pyrenees,  she is quietly blossoming. She had never lived indoors before, yet she’s settling in with remarkable ease. She isn’t destructive, doesn’t seek chaos, and seems content simply being near her people. House training is still new to her, but she’s learning steadily, trying her best in a world that is still very new. Sweetheart is wonderfully social in a calm, respectful way. She lives peacefully with other dogs and a cat, enjoying the comfort of shared space and gentle companionship. She adores belly rubs and has discovered the joy of stretching out beside her humans on the couch, soaking in affection as if she’s always known it was meant for her. She loves the outdoors, but she also listens when it’s time to come inside, happily choosing closeness over freedom. Toys are still a novelty, and watching her figure them out—offering soft play bows and tentative curiosity—is a reminder of how much joy she still has ahead of her. Like many Great Pyrenees, she has a thoughtful, independent streak, but it’s paired with kindness and an unshakable calm. Sweetheart is gentle with children, respectful with other animals, and carries herself with a quiet dignity that feels grounding just to be around. She has no bitterness from her past, only an open heart and a peaceful presence. She will be the kind of dog who brings comfort on hard days and calm on busy ones, the kind who makes a house feel like a home. She is good on a leash and doesn't pull which is remarkable. Sweetheart is ready for a family who values gentleness, patience, and quiet love. She needs a fenced yard and is not a good condo or apartment candidate.  Just not the lifestyle that a Great Pyrenees can thrive in. She isn’t flashy—she’s something better. She’s the kind of dog you’ll wonder how you ever lived without.  Please write to Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrtennessee@gmail.com if you are interested.   Please let us know where you live.  We adopt out of state to the northeastern states as well here in Nashville, Tn where the rescue is based.   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comMay 2, 2026, 11:49 am
