My story

Hi everybody! My name is Russel. I am a sweet little 8-pound guy. I think I’m a fish because I love water so much, but my foster mama tells me I am a fluffy dog. Well, whatever I am, I love, love, love water… to drink it, play in it, or just lay in it! Sometimes I make a big mess of my water bowl and foster mama calls me Russel the Rascal! I am so friendly and outgoing, people tell me I am adorable like all.the.time! I love to snuggle with my foster humans. When they pick me up, I climb right into the crook of their necks and hang on for hugs and snuggles and pets. Ahhhh … makes me so happy. I came to Help A Dog Smile while I was still in my mama’s belly. We were destined to be born in the desert, but we got really lucky and came into the world under the care of nice rescue people. I was born January 31, 2026. I play well with my sibling and do not seem to have a dominant personality. I have been introduced to several adults and children to ensure good socialization. My foster mommy thinks I look like a little Australian Shepherd mix whatever that means! All I know is that I am small for that kind of dog, 9 pounds to be exact! When I am all grown up, the rescue peeps think I will be around 25 pounds. I am not gonna stay a puppy forever! I am also gonna live for a long time, like 15 years, so you hafta treat me like a family member cuz I am not disposable for any reason, like if you are moving, having babies, or for any reason! I am not disposable for my entire life with you! Of course, the rescue peeps are smart and always suggest that we all go to training classes to get a good start. That way we can bond, too!! Way too much fun! Get this … I already know how to use potty pads … I could pick up house training easily. My foster mommy does not let us use the dog door because we are so little. We do get to play in the yard 3 times a day when she takes us out and supervises us. Also, I heard my foster mommy say I am neutered, microchipped, and had my first puppy shots.
