My story

A volunteer writes:Meow55, a handsome and elegant looking tiger came to us with his female twin Meow15 as their owner became physically unable to care for his pets. Nothing is really known about them except that they are acting very shy at the care center. Meow55 is curious and wants to see who opened his door. Treats and gourmet food...He is interested and samples gladly the offerings. There is some slow blinking with encouraging words, acceptance of my finger caressing his nose but petting on the head was not accepted. No hissing and no swatting, though, just backing off. Meow55 is right now very hand shy and needs a bit more time to come out of his shell. He needs at this point a caring and experienced adopter who will give him time and space in a low traffic and quiet home until he finds his bearings. Meow55 is waiting for you at the Manhattan Care Center. What my friends at ACC say about me:I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.I prefer to call the shots and enjoy coming to you when I'm ready for pets.I'm sensitive and shy. I'll need extra help from you.I would appreciate slow introductions to new people and places to help me feel safe.Meow 55 tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents. Due to the behavior shown, he may not be a great fit for young children. Any home with older children prepared to adopt this cat should conduct a thorough interaction and endeavor to monitor this cat around their children to prevent these behaviors from being reinforced. Primary Color: Brown Tabby Weight: 13.4 Age: 3yrs 1mths 1wks

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Meow 55, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
