My story

*Arriving June 13*Apply at rebeldogrescue.com*APPLY TO FOSTER TO ADOPTTroy is an anxious little dog desperately trying to find peace and comfort in this scary world. To novice people he is reserved, defensive and avoidant - but he loves to accept affection from the people who take the time to earn his trust. Initially he doesn’t want to be leashed and will try to scoot away - but once he’s on the leash he walks great and is very food motivated. Troy is jumpy and actively working through the trauma life has brought him to this point - but we are so happy with the progress we've seen in a short amount of time. Troy was found running loose out in the county with another Pug mix when a citizen brought them to us. The sibling has since been adopted and Troy has been left all alone. He would thrive in a home that could offer a calm space to decompress in a compassionate understanding of his need to feel safe before he opens up. We are hopeful that Troy's people find him and give him the life he deserves. *See social media for videos Name: TroyBreed: PugAge: ~2 yearsWeight: ~18lbSex: Male, neutered Colour: TanMedical: Troy sustained bruising / bleeding around his prepuce and scrotum immediately following neuter - no current concerns. Good with men: Scared at first - warms up with time Good with women: Scared at first - warms up with timeGood with kids: Unknown - not test, suggest 12+ dog savvy Has this dog ever bitten or attempted to bite? No, Troy has never attempted to bite as his first reaction is generally to try and get away from new people. He is defensive against novice people and should be given ample warning before attempting to touch. People should allow him to approach them first before attempting to force engagement. When the dog meets new people he...Approaches cautiously, Does not want to interact at first, but warms up, May bark/growlGood with dogs: Sometimes - can be selectiveHow does this dog react to meeting new dogs? Stiff body, Avoidant, Needs slow introductions. Has lived with / been housed with another dog. What type(s) of dogs does this dog prefer/be best with? Confident dogs willing to put up with his initial anxious energy.Good with Cats: Presumed to be good with cats based on cat-test. We walked Troy on a leash into our cat room with all the cats in their kennels. Troy cautiously approached the cats and showed a healthy respect of them. All new cat introductions should be done slowly and with care - but our initial test led us to believe that he may be able to coexist happily with a cat.Crate training: Enters with some coaxing, Settles after some initial barking/whining. He does well in the crate generally. Can be avoidant of the leash when leaving / tries to dart out quickly, May bark at people / other dogs he doesn't know - but once he knows you is happy to accept affection in the kennel.House training: Almost perfectly house trained - about 90% thereResource Guarding: None seenWalks on a leash: Generally does well with people he trusts - but is skittish of new people.Energy level: Medium Areas to work on: Needs confidence building, Fearful of loud noises, Fear reactive, AnxietyWhat type of environments would NOT be suitable for the dog? Potentially a busy city area as he has a lot of fears he needs to work on Any noted separation anxiety? None seen Barker: Average
