My story

Emerald, lovingly known as Emmy, is a 2½-year-old Great Dane with a heart full of love and a bright future ahead. She has recently returned to the care of Big Hearts for Big Breeds after her previous family realized she wasn’t quite the right fit for the structure of their home. While that chapter has closed, Emmy is ready for a fresh start with a family that understands her needs and sees the incredible dog she’s becoming. Emmy is a sweet, affectionate girl who truly thrives with routine, consistency, and clear expectations. She’s the kind of dog who blossoms when she knows what’s expected of her, and she forms deep bonds with the people she trusts. Because she missed out on important socialization early in life, Emmy has worked hard to build her confidence. She successfully completed a board-and-train program where she gained valuable skills and learned to navigate the world with more assurance. She is potty trained, kennel trained, and continues to do best in an environment that provides structure and positive leadership. Emmy would be happiest in a home with older children (14+) and another large, well-mannered dog that can help model appropriate behavior. She can be a bit bossy with canine friends, so adopters with large-breed experience who understand dog dynamics will help set her up for success. With patience, guidance, and a calm, knowledgeable family, Emerald has all the ingredients to become an exceptional companion. Big Hearts for Big Breeds knows her perfect match is out there—someone who will appreciate her intelligence, celebrate her progress, and give her the loving, stable home where she can continue to shine for years to come.
