My story

**IF THIS LISTING IS STILL POSTED THIS DOG IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. NO NEED TO EMAIL ASKING IF THE DOG IS AVAILABLE. PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS BIO THOROUGHLY AS INFORMATION ON HOW TO APPLY IS CONTAINED IN THIS LISTING** For Adoption: Inga! Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. To apply for adoption and for more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. Inga is a two year old female Bernese Mountain Dog. She weighs in at just over 80lbs and still has some filling out to do. She is a typical silly and goofy young Bernese. She was named Inga for the Swiss background of the breed. As a giant breed slow to mature, Inga is just now in the teenage dog stage so has bursts of silliness and energy but is in general a moderate energy dog and will mature into that sweet, placid Berner we all love. Inga was a puppy mill mom which means that she spent the first two years of her life in a barn. Before staying with a foster, she had never been in a house or even had a collar on. So a lot of the world is still very new to her and she can be very nervous about trying new things. She will need a calm and confident owner to help her continue to discover the world. Inga would do best in a home with a securely fenced backyard. She is still very nervous to pee or poop on leash. When at our trailer site with us, she held it for days because she was on a leash. This may improve in time as she gets more comfortable out on walks, but for now she needs the safe space of a good sized fenced yard to do her business. She will also require a home in a quieter neighbourhood, small town or rural area. She is not suited to busy city living. The world is a whole new place for her to explore and she needs gentle exposures and not to be overwhelmed by cars whizzing by, bikes , skateboards etc. She is fine with some noise but would not do well with the noise and activity involved in living with a young family. Inga will require an adult only home or one with gentle teens She would like a quiet and calm home without a lot of family gatherings, people over or parties. Inga is a sensitive girl and needs a quiet home to feel secure. Inga gets daily walks. With it getting hotter out, she is usually walked in the morning and/or evening but she still needs daily exercise to combat her youthful energy. She is not a high energy dog, more of a moderate energy, but needs her walks to be happy. She is strong and her person will need to be able to physically handle her. Inga is a very funny girl and has been enjoying being able to be a puppy. This means that she wants to bounce and play outside and then crash and have big naps beside the couch. She will even play fetch with herself with a toy in the backyard. Inga has been nervous but fine with getting bathed at a pet store DIY wash station. She does not mind us checking out her teeth, ears, or feet. She was treated for an ear infection but her one ear often still has buildup although the infection has cleared up. We make it a habit of wiping out her ear every morning which she enjoys. Inga has not had a single accident. She is great about doing her business outside. She is calm and quiet in the crate. She can be stubborn going inside of the crate but once in there, she is calm. She has had no issues in the car and has gone for an almost two hour car ride. Inga would do best in the house as the only dog. She currently lives with another Bernese and a cat. She has been very calm and even affectionate with a cat and could live with a dog savvy cat. She would like to be the only dog in the home though. She is ok with dogs, and can have dog friends to socialize with, but in the home she would like to be the one and only. On a walk, she is not reactive towards anyone or any other dogs unless the other dog reacts to her first and then she will bark back. Generally though she is very low key out on walks, taking it all in. Having spent 2yrs living solely in a barn there is a lot to take in outside! Inga has been doing really well with training while on a leash/walk. She is a pleasure to walk but will need a lot more structured training. She is going through her typical Bernese teenager phase which means sometimes she will suddenly get excited and jump up and/or want to wrestle. She will need to go home with someone who is committed to helping her burn off energy and feel confident enough to control her when she is having a hard time controlling her excitement and playfulness. She is also a large breed who will charge into you or jump up without notice. So her future owner will need to feel confident about physically being able to manage her. Inga has been spayed and received all of her vaccines. She is a healthy girl who will just need someone to monitor and continue to clean out her ear. She was very nervous/shut down at the vet just from being around people that she does not know. Inga is a lovely dog who everyone loves to say hi to. She is popular at our trailer park and in our neighborhood when wanting to say hi to neighbors. She needs a home where she get the structure she needs to keep flourishing. Although Bernese are a sweet gentle breed, they still need daily exercise and rules/boundaries to be the perfect dog. If you are looking for a sweet yet goofy Bernese, she might be the dog for you!
