My story

**IF THIS LISTING IS STILL POSTED THIS DOG IS STILL AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION. NO NEED TO EMAIL ASKING IF THE DOG IS AVAILABLE. PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS BIO THOROUGHLY AS INFORMATION ON HOW TO APPLY IS CONTAINED IN THIS LISTING** For Adoption: Toothless! Please read our dog bios carefully to be sure that the dog you are applying for suits your family and lifestyle. We at PDR believe in the benefits of post-adoption training for our dogs and their families. This allows for continued socialization, learning and helps to create a well-mannered and balanced dog. Post-adoption training is a requirement in our adoption process. To apply for adoption and for more information on our process and requirements, visit our website at https://pounddog.ca/adoption-info/. Meet Toothless, a charming 5-year-old male French Bulldog with a stunning, uniquely patterned grey brindle coat and 40 pounds of pure love. This sturdy little gentleman is a resilient sweetheart who blossoms beautifully once he knows he is safe. His name is inspired by the beloved film How to Train Your Dragon because, much like the mythical creature, Toothless was initially cautious around people but has completely transformed after learning that humans can bring love, kindness, and security. Today, he is the ultimate loyal shadow who simply wants to be right by your side — and we mean right by your side — throughout the day. As a former puppy mill breeding dad, the world is still full of exciting firsts for Toothless. Every new experience, every new sight, and every new sound is another milestone in his journey. While unfamiliar things can occasionally startle him, he handles them with remarkable grace and patience as he discovers just how wonderful life can be. Toothless thrives in a calm, predictable home with someone who is around often to keep him company and shower him with affection. He forms incredibly strong bonds with his people and tends to choose a favourite person, becoming their devoted little shadow. Because he likes to stay so close, adopters should be mindful that he can easily become a tripping hazard as he follows his person from room to room. He is the perfect companion for someone who enjoys a quieter lifestyle and shorter, leisurely walks rather than long adventures. One of Toothless’ favourite pastimes is stretching out for a nap on the grass, making a securely fenced yard or garden highly desirable. Toothless is wonderfully easy to care for in many ways. He is an excellent eater who happily licks his bowl clean, travels beautifully in the car in his crate, where he usually spends the trip counting sheep, and is an absolute gentleman at the veterinary clinic. Bath time isn’t his favourite activity and may involve a few dramatic shakes, so bringing an umbrella is recommended, but he settles quickly and cooperates well. His crate is his safe space and cozy den where he happily sleeps and relaxes. He prefers to enter on his own terms and appreciates having his space respected. In the mornings, one of his favourite routines is hopping beside his person for his mandatory morning scratches, which he considers a top priority. Because of his background, Toothless can sometimes be startled by people unexpectedly entering a room. When this happens, he may announce their arrival with a bark or small growl before quickly settling once he realizes everything is okay. For the most part, however, he is a quiet and easy-going dog. He can also be cautious around people wearing baseball caps and around taller men, likely due to his previous experiences. Continued positive exposure and patience help him build confidence. When meeting other dogs, Toothless can be a bit enthusiastic and bulldozer-like during the initial “sniff test,” so slow, controlled introductions are important for everyone’s comfort. In the home, he would likely be happiest as the center of attention only dog, or with a calm, laid-back canine companion who respects his space and boundaries. During walks, Toothless is content to mind his own business and quietly observe the world around him. He shows curiosity toward cats, rabbits, frogs, and other small animals but is not reactive toward them. Toothless is absolutely wonderful with children. He is patient, gentle, and enjoys quietly sitting beside them while they play. Because he is such a dedicated shadow and likes to stay directly underfoot, he could easily become a tripping hazard for very young children. He also prefers a quieter home without a lot of excitement or busyness. For these reasons, a home with children over the age of eight will be his best fit, but visiting younger children would be welcome for him for short visits. Toothless is slightly hard of hearing and therefore does not respond reliably to spoken commands. Instead, he has adapted beautifully to hand signals and currently knows the hand signal for “sit.” If you sit on the grass and wiggle your fingers on the ground in “jellyfish fingers” or “spider fingers,” Toothless knows exactly what that means — head scratches are coming. He responds with the most adorable little belly crawl toward you in anticipation. His absolute favourite thing in the world is having his chin and head scratched at exactly the same time. Toothless is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and overall in good health. He does have naturally narrow ear canals, which contribute to his hearing limitations and make him more prone to ear infections that will require routine monitoring and care. He is also currently dealing with suspected environmental or seasonal allergies, which present as watery eyes, sneezing, and occasional eye rubbing or scratching. His future family should be prepared to continue investigating and managing these symptoms with their veterinarian if necessary. Anyone considering a French Bulldog needs to be fully aware of the higher veterinary care needs this breed has and be fully prepared to take on the extra medical costs of this breed. His people need to know that this breed is prone to IVDD and be financially and emotionally prepared for this. Toothless does not have any back issues now, and we hope he lives his life without any issues, we just have to make sure that his adoptive family is prepared for this should it happen. Like many dogs his age, Toothless would also benefit from a dental cleaning in the future. It is not something he required now, but with any smaller dog of his age, it is to be expected in the future. Toothless is finally free from the life he once knew and is discovering all the wonderful things the world has to offer through his little snout, licks, and paws. He is looking for a patient, loving family who will continue celebrating his journey of trust, confidence, and connection. In return, Toothless will offer unwavering loyalty, quiet companionship, and the kind of love that only comes from a dog who truly understands what it means to finally be safe.
