QUICK FACTS Name: Hiro Age: 3 years old (Born January 2023) Gender: Male (Neutered) Breed: Shih Tzu, Chihuahua mix Color: White, Grey Weight: 5kg / 11lbs Microchipped, Fully Vaccinated Up to Date, Dewormed   MY RESCUE STORY I was once part of a loving family and grew up alongside my dog siblings. After my owner's passing, unexpected changes in the household meant my family could no longer keep us safe. Wanting the very best for us, they made the difficult decision to ask the rescue for help. Thanks to their selfless choice, I arrived safely at the care facility, where I've been given a fresh start and a bright future. Now I'm patiently waiting for a forever family who will love and cherish me for the rest of my life. I can't wait to leave my past behind and begin my next chapter filled with love, happiness, and new adventures.   MY HEALTH All vaccinations up-to-date Healthy with no known health issues   MY PERSONALITY While I'm a little shy in the beginning, I warm up quickly once I feel comfortable. Having grown up with my dog siblings my whole life, I naturally find comfort and confidence around other dogs. Overall, I'm a sweet, friendly boy who enjoys both people and canine friends. I'm also super small and absolutely adorable! My tiny size, gentle personality, and loving nature make me easy to fall in love with. I'm ready to fill my forever home with lots of happiness, cuddles, and unconditional love.   MY SOCIAL SKILLS · With People: I'm a little shy when we first meet, but treats are the quickest way to win me over! I warm up very quickly and soon enjoy pets and affection from my people. Once I feel comfortable, I love showing my belly for rubs and happily allow myself to be picked up. With just a little patience in the beginning, you'll discover my sweet, loving personality. · With Dogs: Having grown up with my dog siblings, I naturally look to other dogs for comfort and confidence. I would thrive in a home with a friendly resident dog and would make a wonderful little addition to the family. I get along well with dogs of a similar size as well as larger dogs. When meeting new dogs, I appreciate thoughtful introductions and a little time to feel comfortable. Once I settle in, my friendly and gentle personality shines, and I enjoy having canine friends by my side. · With Cats: My reaction to cats is unknown. A cat test can be arranged upon request to ensure the best fit.   ENERGY LEVEL & ACTIVITY I have a moderate energy level. I enjoy spending time outdoors, exploring, and having fun, but once I’ve had my activity and excitement, I’m more than happy to come inside and relax comfortably indoors.   TRAINING & HABITS I can pull on the leash at times, but overall I walk nicely and follow my handler's lead. I don't guard my food from people or my dog friends and have good manners around mealtimes. I may bark when I want attention, but I'm generally a quiet little pup. I know how to rest calmly in my kennel and settle in well. Car rides can be a little scary for me, and I feel much more comfortable when I'm able to snuggle in your arms for reassurance. For potty habits, I can use both pee pads indoors and go potty outdoors, giving my future family a great foundation to build on.   MY IDEAL HOME I’m searching for a patient, loving family who can help me become the best version of myself. I’ll thrive in a home with: • A family that will provide me with a safe haven – where I can decompress, be myself in a stable environment • A family that understands my past and is patient with me throughout • A family that enjoys indoor and outdoor time together • A family that will love and cherish me forever   SPECIAL NOTES I may be a Chihuahua–Shih Tzu mix, but everyone says I look much more like a little Shih Tzu! I'm a tiny boy with a huge heart and so much love to give. Although I can be a little shy at first, I warm up quickly and become a sweet, affectionate little shadow once I trust you. The staff and volunteers often comment on how adorable I am and how easy it is to fall in love with my gentle personality. Because I've spent my whole life with my dog siblings, I would especially thrive in a home with another friendly dog who can help me build confidence and continue showing me that the world is a safe place. With a little patience, love, and a canine friend by my side, I'm sure I'll blossom into a happy, confident boy.
