My story

Note: Currently, Ellong is in Korea, but will be arriving in Toronto once adopted. For more info about the dog, or to submit an adoption application, please click here.BackgroundEllong was found abandoned in a rural area of Paju in 2019. After her rescue, she spent about seven months in a loving foster home before being adopted in 2021. Sadly, she was surrendered in 2025 after the family adopted another dog and the two did not get along. Through no fault of her own, Ellong lost her home and returned to the shelter. It was heartbreaking for everyone who knew her. She now lives with other dogs at the shelter while waiting for a family that is the right match for her.Personality and SocializationEllong is a gentle, affectionate dog who absolutely adores people. She can be a little shy at first, but her sweet personality quickly shines through. She enjoys meeting both men and women and does not have significant stranger anxiety. While she may be slightly more cautious around adult men at first, she warms up with a little time and kindness. One of Ellong’s favourite things is relaxing on a cozy blanket or bed beside her people. She loves rolling onto her back for belly rubs and happily soaks up attention. Her calm, loving nature makes her a wonderful companion who simply enjoys being close to her family.Although she gets along with other dogs, people are always her first choice. She is polite when meeting dogs during walks and is happy to exchange a quick sniff before moving on. She is not interested in play and usually prefers resting quietly while other dogs are playing. She appreciates respectful canine companions but does not enjoy overly energetic or pushy dogs. During mealtimes, Ellong prefers to have her own space and does not like other dogs approaching while she is eating.BehavioursEllong has wonderful house manners and has already shown that she adjusts well to family life. She previously lived with two adults and school aged children and also spent time in foster care, giving her valuable experience living in a home. She walks beautifully on leash while wearing a harness and enjoys her daily outings. She rides calmly in the car without motion sickness and is also comfortable using elevators. Bath time is easy for her, and she behaves well during grooming. She is a little sensitive about having her face cleaned and her nails trimmed, but with gentle encouragement and patience, she cooperates well.Ellong has no separation anxiety and can stay home calmly when left alone. She is a quiet, easygoing dog who relaxes well indoors and does not get into mischief. She is both indoor and outdoor house trained. While she can use pee pads indoors, she prefers going outside whenever possible.Health and DietEllong is spayed, microchipped, dewormed, fully vaccinated, and receives monthly parasite prevention. She is healthy and ready to find her forever home. She eats regular dry kibble and has a healthy appetite without being overly food motivated. In her previous foster home, she enjoyed Royal Canin food. Her favourite treats are soft, chewy jerky treats rather than hard chew bones. She also enjoys many fruits and vegetables, including broccoli, sweet potatoes, potatoes, pumpkin, apples, and watermelon. Pumpkin is her absolute favourite.Ellong has a very mild Grade 1 luxating patella in her left knee, while her right knee is completely normal. This does not currently cause her any discomfort and does not require medication or surgery. Many dogs with a Grade 1 luxating patella live normal, active lives without any special treatment. Maintaining a healthy weight, getting regular exercise, and taking joint supplements may help support her long term joint health.Ideal HomeEllong is looking for a family that wants a loyal companion who enjoys spending time with people more than anything else. She would be happiest with adopters who appreciate her calm, affectionate personality and are looking for a dog to share quiet evenings, relaxing weekends, and enjoyable walks. She would thrive as the only dog in the home, where she can enjoy all the love and attention she deserves.Ellong has already shown that she can adapt beautifully to home life and is more than ready to leave shelter life behind for good. She has so much love to give and is simply waiting for the family who will cherish her forever.Note: Currently, Ellong is in Korea, but will be arriving in Toronto once adopted. For more info about the dog, or to submit an adoption application, please click here.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Ellong, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
