My story

Hi. I’m Pickles. You may know me as the guy whose freedom walk took over the internet. Yep… over 1.1 million people watched me hippity-hop my way out of the shelter. I’m between 4/5, closer to 5 probably… but who’s counting! I weigh about 45–50 lbs and I love being a low rider! Just to clear something up… No, my feet weren’t hot. It was early morning. That’s just… how I walk. I don’t know what to tell you. I was born with main-character energy. I was so freaking excited to get out of that place duh! Around here they call me the Director of Marketing, but I’m ready to retire from corporate life and accept a full-time position as your best friend on your couch! Or maybe my own couch! Slow down, my friend. If you’re looking for instant perfection, I’m probably not your guy. This is rescue, duh! My perfection awaits. If you’re looking for something real… keep reading. I like my own space. Actually, I love my own space. I prefer having my own room where I can decompress, stretch out, and feel like the king I know I am. There’s absolutely no rush with me. Life isn’t an Amazon Prime order, a DoorDash delivery, or AI-generated overnight success. The best relationships take time. Give me that time, and I’ll meet you there. Let’s talk about my roommates. I can absolutely live with other dogs… but we have to do it the right way. I need time to decompress before making new friends. Once I’m settled, I coexist beautifully and even play with my 11-month-old foster sister, who seems to believe every hour is Zoomie O’Clock. She’s a lot. I can handle her… just in small doses, thank you very much. I’m not a fan of rushing introductions. Slow is fast in my world. (Read up on dog psychology.) About my toys… Sometimes I think my toys are priceless museum artifacts. If I decide one belongs to me, I’m actually very easy to redirect with calm leadership. My rescue recommends skipping toys during the first month while I settle in, unless I’m enjoying them by myself. Once everyone understands the rules, life gets much easier. Humans? Obsessed. People are my favorite. I’ll happily be your shadow, your adventure buddy, your couch companion, your emotional support potato… whatever the day calls for. If you’re sitting down for a family dinner, you better believe I’m already under the table. I’ll politely rest my face on your lap and silently campaign for just one tiny bite. I’m not saying it’ll work… but I’m also not saying it won’t. My negotiation skills are top-tier. Like most bullies, I’m convinced I’m actually a lap dog. Your opinion on that isn’t really part of the decision-making process. Now for my fabulous maintenance package. Every king deserves a little spa day. My ears need a good cleaning every week. I appreciate having my handsome face wiped down because, well… presentation matters. And if you happen to own a classy little bow tie collar—not one that’s bigger than my head—we’re probably already best friends. We can change it up with a gold chain too! My fits can be Hampton summer or LA Chicano! I pull everything off, just saying! One more thing… If we go outside, don’t be offended if I decide I’d rather head back in. I’m not exactly applying for Wilderness Explorer of the Year. You can call Dora the Explorer for that mess. When it’s cool out, the outside is great. Just let me go potty and back in! I also take treats like an absolute gentleman. Refined. Sophisticated. Very mindful. My quirks make me… me. My happy dances deserve it’s own fan club. The hops I present are stellar! When I try to jump up and give a stretch for some pets, I have to get a good start with a couple bounces! My goofy personality lights up every room I walk into. I don’t try to be funny… It just keeps happening. My tongue is long and extra, and most of the time it sticks out when I sleep! What I’m really looking for… Someone who understands that the best dogs aren’t always the easiest on Day One. Someone who believes trust is earned. Someone who understands structure, patience, leadership, and bulldog logic. Because once I’m comfortable… You’ll wonder how you ever lived without me. So if you’re looking for a dog who’s equal parts comedian, gentleman, king, and loyal best friend… I saved you a spot under my butt so I can get the most pets and snores at the same time! Pickles is vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped, he is being fostered in Mesa, AZ. His adoption donation fee is $1100.00 you can apply for him at freedomfrenchierescue.org.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Pickles, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
