My story

FOR ADOPTION in southern Ontario: Hi… my name is Bea. I’m only 3 years old, I weigh just 5 pounds, and if I’m being honest… I don’t understand why I’m still waiting. I don’t know what diabetes is. I don’t know why some people see that word and decide I’m too much. I only know that I love people with my whole heart. When I arrived at my foster home, I didn’t waste any time. Within an hour, I had found a lap, curled into a tiny little ball, and fallen asleep. That night, I climbed into bed like I’d always belonged there. Because that’s who I am. I don’t believe strangers stay strangers for very long. I believe every lap is meant to be shared, every blanket is meant to be burrowed under, and every person I meet could be my forever family. I love racing you to the couch before you can sit down (I usually win). I disappear under blankets until all you can see is a tiny lump. My foster family says I’m like a teddy bear that came to life because all I really want is to be as close to my people as possible. I’m wonderful with kids—even the tiny humans! I’m currently living with a 2-year old, and we’re doing great. I can go from joyful zoomies to peaceful cuddles in seconds. I’ll proudly let you know when someone comes to the door, and I give leash walks my very best effort, even if my little legs think they’re much bigger than they really are. There is one thing you should know about me. Every day, I need insulin. I don’t like the needles, but I trust the people who love me, so I stand still, take a deep breath, and let them help me. That’s what brave little girls do. My diabetes is something I live with but it isn’t who I am. I’m still happy. I still get excited for breakfast. I still love to play. I still love to snuggle under the blankets. And I still have so much love left to give. Maybe you’re the person who will look past my diagnosis and see me for who I really am, a tiny little dog with a giant heart who just wants a family to call her own. All I want is a home where I never have to wonder if I’ll be loved tomorrow and someone who can provide for my medical needs. I may need a little extra care, but I promise I’ll spend every single day showing you that I’m worth it. If you’re willing to open your heart to a little dog who will love you with everything she has, I’m waiting… and I can’t wait to finally come home. Love, Bea PS: adoption applications are here: https://teamdogrescue.ca/you-can-help/adopt/adoption-application/

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Bea, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
