My story

Runa is a playful, affectionate three-year-old who forms strong bonds with the people she learns she can trust. Around familiar caregivers her body softens, her tail starts wagging, and she runs over looking for attention. She has climbed into laps, offered kisses, placed her head into peoples hands for pets, and happily followed her favorite people around the clinic. She also has a wonderfully playful side. Runa enjoys fetch, tug toys, stuffed toys, treats, and anything involving peanut butter. She is highly food motivated and has already shown that she can slow down and take treats more gently when asked to wait. Runa needs a calm, patient adopter who will give her time to decompress and continue helping her rebuild positive associations with leashing, confinement, and unfamiliar people. She should not be forced through frightening situations or corrected for communicating discomfort. Her person will need to move slowly, use food and trust-based handling, and understand that progress may depend on allowing Runa to approach rather than reaching into her space. With other dogs, Runa can show some initial reactivity but will settle with time and structure. For dog-dog introductions, Runa would require a very slow and controlled process and she would do best with dogs who are calm, confident, and submissive. Her compatibility with cats and children is unknown. Careful introductions and appropriate separation would be necessary while those questions are evaluated. Runa needs someone willing to understand her fears, earn her trust, and let her move forward at her own pace.
