My story

Lola celebrated her 4th birthday on June 14, 2026, and she is now ready to find her forever family. Lola would do best with patient, dog-savvy adult(s) who understand that trust isn't built in a day. She has made incredible progress since coming into foster care, but she's the type of dog who needs people to let her move at her own pace. The more she trusts you, the more her wonderful personality shines through. Her ideal home would have a securely fenced yard where she can enjoy running around, exploring, and spending time outside with her people. One of her favourite pastimes is simply sitting outdoors with her people and watching the world go by. Lola loves being with her people. She enjoys walks, car rides, relaxing on restaurant patios, playing tug, chasing stuffed toys, and chewing on a bone or collagen stick. She has wonderful manners in public and is happy to lie quietly beside you while you enjoy a meal or coffee at any outdoor patio or cafe. She doesn't beg for food or seek attention from strangers, making her an easy companion to take almost anywhere. She would be happiest as the only dog in the home. While she has been comfortable meeting calm, larger dogs, she has shown with a snap and a growl that energetic small dogs are simply not her preference. A calm, dog-savvy cat that respects her space may be fine, as Lola has shown no concern when meeting a neighbour's cat. Although her previous owner said she was good with children, we believe Lola would be happiest in an adult-only home where life is quieter and more predictable. A calm environment is important for her comfort and confidence. Lola has worked incredibly hard on her potty training.  Although she is 4 years old, when she first arrived, she had very little understanding of where it was appropriate to do her business. She now follows a regular routine and has made remarkable progress. Like many dogs adjusting to a new life and a new home, unexpected schedule changes can still lead to an occasional accident, particularly if she's worried her people may not return. With consistency, patience, and time, we 100% know she will be perfect in this area.  Lola isn't a dog who responds well to pressure or force or someone constantly telling her what to do. She doesn't need someone to "fix" her—she needs someone willing to earn her trust, on her terms, at her pace. She needs someone to listen to her, read her cues just as she reads yours.  Once you do, she becomes incredibly affectionate, loyal, and attentive. She always likes to know where her people are and quietly keeps an eye on both of us. In just four weeks in foster care, Lola has made remarkable progress. She arrived unsure of the world around her and didn't even respond to her name. Today, she happily joins us on walks, loves car rides, politely sits to ask for things she wants, and is discovering that life is fun. It seems like every week she surprises us by becoming a little braver, a little more playful, and a little more confident. Every small step forward has been exciting to witness. Our hope is that her forever family won't wait for her to become "finished," because the real magic is being there for those moments when she realizes something new is safe, fun, or simply worth trying. If you're looking for an outgoing social butterfly, Lola probably isn't your match. But if you're looking for an adorable companion who will blossom a little more every week, making you smile every day, and become deeply bonded to you for life, Lola could be exactly the dog you've been waiting for. Lola is in Brockville, Ontario Due to time constraints, we cannot respond to every email asking for more information on a dog. Please carefully review the bio for the dog and our adoption process https://www.speakingofdogs.com/adoption/adoption-process/.  If you are still interested in adopting, please fill out the adoption application form at the bottom of that page.July 21, 2026, 9:52 pm

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Lola, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
