Fran

My story

Fran is an adorable 5-year-old Miniature Poodle mix being fostered in Waterloo.  She was released into our care from a breeding facility where she was used to produce puppies for profit. She has a light apricot coloured curly coat. She is quite dainty in appearance and weighs 11 pounds. Fran received her spay operation and has had a dental cleaning. She is vaccinated, microchipped and is on flea, tick and heartworm prevention. Fran is enjoying her newfound freedom and is reliving her puppy days romping with her fellow foster dogs and playing with toys. She has been loving and friendly since day one. She enjoys being close to her foster mom, sitting with her on her chair for morning coffee.  Fran is quite curious so care must be taken to keep things she shouldn’t have out of her reach. She has been introduced to walking on the leash and is quite comfortable on a walk.  She enjoys being outside and will amuse herself sniffing around while you read or garden. She can be left for several hours on her own in the house and is not destructive. Fran is working on housetraining and is making progress. In addition to walks we put her outside a few times a day to relieve herself in the fenced backyard. She is eating kibble and enjoys treats very much. Fran sleeps on her foster's bed peacefully through the night.  She can jump onto furniture and use stairs. She would be fine being the only dog or sharing a home with another dog of similar size and age. Her preferred home will have a securely fenced backyard. She needs a patient person who is home part of the day and is willing to work with her on her house training. Fran will be a faithful companion and bring a lot of fun and joy to her forever family. For those interested in adopting one of our puppy mill release dogs, please be aware that these dogs often require extra patience, structure, and ongoing support. Their temperaments and behaviours can vary widely, and for the best outcome, adoptive homes MUST have access to a fully fenced yard and understand that rehabilitation is a gradual process. Many of these dogs have not yet experienced living in a home, regular interaction with people, leash walking, housetraining, or even having a name. All of these new people, environments, and activities can be scary for them and many are flight risks while they adjust.  Leash walks may not even be a safe option for them initially which is why having access to their own fenced yard is essential.  They need a patient adopter who can meet them at their comfort level and gently help them learn how to be a companion animal.   Due to time constraints, we cannot respond to every email asking for more information on a dog.
