Mavi / Male / 1 Year / 46 lbs / Shepherd Mix / Good with Dogs / Older Kids Only / Not Good with Cats / Local Shelter / Fostered in Toronto **Follow Mavi’s journey on Instagram: @adoptmavi Mavi is a handsome, sensitive boy who is learning that the world can be a safe and happy place. While his past is unknown, he has been thriving in foster care with structure, training, and patient guidance, and every day his personality shines a little brighter. Mavi is incredibly smart, eager to learn, and deeply affectionate once he trusts you. His foster says he picks up new tricks almost immediately and loves training sessions, puzzles, sniffing adventures, lick mats, long-lasting chews, and outdoor time. After warming up, he becomes a total cuddle bug who loves being close to his people. With familiar people, Mavi is easygoing, affectionate, and loving. Around strangers, he can initially be nervous and takes a little time to settle in, especially in busy environments. He does best with calm, patient introductions and people who allow him to move at his own pace. Mavi would not be the right fit for a home with young children, but he may do well with respectful older teens. Mavi’s ideal home would be in the suburbs or a quieter area with access to parks, trails, or a backyard where he can decompress and enjoy outdoor time. He would thrive with a family excited about continuing his training and confidence-building journey. A calm, confident resident dog would likely help him continue to flourish. He is wonderfully social with other dogs and has done very well with his foster sibling, often looking to her for reassurance and guidance. Mavi is not recommended for a home with cats, as he becomes overly excited around them. Mavi has a moderate energy level and enjoys several daily walks focused on sniffing, enrichment, and training. He is still working on leash skills and confidence around cars and runners, but he is making excellent progress with consistency and guidance. He is fully potty trained, sleeps through the night with his humans, and has lovely house manners overall. Mavi does experience some separation anxiety and would likely be happiest in a home where someone is around more often than not while he continues building confidence and independence. Exercise, routine, and mental stimulation have helped him tremendously, and he continues to improve every day. Mavi is currently taking Gabapentin (300mg twice daily) and Melatonin (5mg twice daily) to help him feel more relaxed and comfortable in a home environment. He is truly a good boy with so much potential. For the right family willing to continue helping him grow, he is going to be an incredibly rewarding, loyal, and loving companion.
