My story

At just one year old and 13 pounds, Plum has already faced challenges that no dog should ever have to endure. This sweet tan Chihuahua mix survived alongside her sister, Cherry, as part of a pack of stray Chihuahuas living in the Phoenix mountains. Every day was about survival, surrounded by dangers like coyotes and bobcats. It's remarkable that these little dogs made it through such a frightening existence. After spending so long relying only on herself, Plum is understandably cautious around people. Learning that humans can offer safety, comfort, and love is something she's discovering one small step at a time. While she may not be the kind of dog who rushes into your arms on day one, every tiny victory—a curious glance, a wag of her tail, the courage to come a little closer—is a sign that she's beginning to trust. Plum is looking for a patient, experienced adopter who understands that the most meaningful relationships are sometimes the ones that take time to grow. With kindness, consistency, and a gentle heart, someone will have the incredible privilege of watching this timid little survivor blossom into the dog she was always meant to be. Plum's adoption fee is $250 and includes her spay, vaccinations, microchip, and a complimentary wellness visit at Phoenix Mountain Animal Hospital.
