Rhubarb

My story

Rhubarb is an estimated 3-year-old Husky Shepherd mix who came into rescue with her puppies and is now ready to discover what life looks like when she gets to be the baby herself. This beautiful girl is friendly, playful, mellow, and incredibly affectionate. She can be a little shy when meeting new people, but she warms up quickly, and once she feels comfortable, her happy, loving personality truly shines. She may also be around 70 pounds, but Rhubarb is firmly convinced she is a lap dog! Rhubarb absolutely adores her people and loves nothing more than curling up beside them on the couch or bed. She gets along wonderfully with the resident dog and has generally done well with other dogs. She is a lovely walking companion who enjoys taking her time and walks with a nice loose leash. Rhubarb knows "sit," "off," "come," and "leave it," is housetrained, and travels well in the car. She does gravitate toward women a little more, but has shown that she can happily bond with both men and women. Rhubarb is still working on a few things, including crate training. She is happiest when she can sleep close to her people and can become quite vocal when left alone in her crate when no one is home, so she'll need continued patience and gradual confidence-building around alone time. She has also had one instance of barking and pulling toward another dog on leash, although this has not been a recurring issue and she otherwise walks nicely around dogs. Rhubarb is also an enthusiastic eater and benefits from a slow feeder to remind her that dinner isn't going anywhere. And if there's a patch of dirt available, she may occasionally decide a little digging project is in order! Rhubarb would thrive in a loving home that wants a big, affectionate companion and is willing to continue helping her build confidence and independence. She would be happy with another dog who enjoys having a friend, although her ideal family should be prepared for her to occasionally remind everyone that she is the star of the show and, naturally, deserves her share of the cuddles. In return, Rhubarb will bring warmth, loyalty, goofy 70-pound-lap-dog energy, and an incredible amount of love to her forever family. Our adoption fees cover all up to date veterinary needs, including but not limited to: full veterinary examination, age appropriate vaccinations, fecal test and parasite prevention, wellness bloodwork, spay or neuter, and microchip. All dogs will be started on a 6 week trial of pet insurance after adoption.
