My story

Meet Twigs, a lanky 3-month-old desert survivor!  Background: Twigs was found crying alone as a tiny stray in Mexico at just 6 weeks old. It’s hard to believe this affectionate girl managed to survive on her own in the desert, but her resilience shines through.  Personality: You’d never guess Twigs had a rough beginning. She’s a classic goofy puppy—happy, playful, loving, curious, and eager to bond with her people.  Health: Twigs is a tall, slender pup weighing 13 lbs at 3 months old, and is expected to mature into a medium‑sized dog. She has received dewormer, bordetella, and two rounds of distemper/parvo vaccines. Her remaining distemper/parvo vaccine, rabies vaccine, microchip, and spay surgery are scheduled for 8/31 and fully covered by the rescue.  Training: As a young puppy, Twigs is still learning the basics. She’s making great progress with potty training in her foster home and already uses the dog door independently. Like all puppies, she’ll need continued guidance, consistency, and patience as she grows.  Ideal Home: Twigs would thrive in nearly any loving home where she can receive plenty of affection, structure, and playtime. She enjoys other dogs and would be delighted to have a friendly canine companion, though it’s not required. Her future family should be ready to continue her training and socialization so she can blossom into a confident, well‑mannered adult.  Adoption Requirements: We are currently accepting applications for foster‑to‑adopt. As part of the agreement, her foster‑to‑adopter must bring Twigs to her scheduled appointment on 8/31 at PAWS – The Modern Spay Neuter Clinic (Cave Creek & 101) for her final distemper/parvo vaccine, rabies vaccine, microchip, and spay surgery. This appointment is fully covered by the rescue. Ownership transfers to the adopter immediately following the appointment.  Her adoption fee of $350 helps offset the cost of medical expenses as outlined above. If you live in the Phoenix metro area and think she could be the right fit for you, please complete an adoption application*: helpadogsmile.org/adoption-application  *Please note that the application is not a commitment to adopt–it is a tool used to help determine if a dog and applicant would make a good match. Applications are forwarded to the foster family for review and follow-up.  August 17, 2026, 11:14 am

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Twigs, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
