My story

Six years young, sweet as can be, and ready to sniff out her happily-ever-after! Meet Alice, a lovely 6-year-old Lab/Shepherd cross who has been quietly winning hearts since arriving at the shelter. Alice came to us as an unclaimed stray, and while we may not know much about her past, she's showing us every day what a wonderful girl she is. From day one, Alice has been a calm, friendly, and well-mannered presence in the shelter. She's one of the quieter dogs in her kennel room and has been doing a fantastic job keeping her space clean — a pretty impressive résumé for a girl waiting patiently for her forever family! Alice is a friendly lady who seems happy to say hello to just about everyone she meets. She's got a lovely temperament and demeanor, and there's an easygoing quality about her that makes her a pleasure to spend time with. But don't let that calm exterior fool you — Alice has a nose! Put her somewhere new and suddenly the world becomes one giant mystery to investigate. Every interesting scent deserves a sniff, every new path deserves to be explored, and every bush may be hiding something extremely important. She may even have a little hound dog hiding somewhere in her family tree! Because Alice loves following her nose, daily walks will be an important part of her new life. Even better? Take her somewhere different from time to time. New neighbourhoods, trails, and paths will give her plenty of interesting smells and sights to investigate while keeping her mind engaged. Alice seems to be a smart and food-motivated girl, which makes us think training could be a lot of fun for everyone involved. We'd love to see Alice's new family start things off on the right paw with obedience classes. Not only will training help establish expectations and good habits from the beginning, but it can also be a wonderful way for Alice and her people to build trust, communication, and a strong bond. And when treats are involved? Well, Alice is likely to be a very enthusiastic student. Alice may do well living with another well-mannered, compatible dog, provided introductions are done thoughtfully and correctly. As with any new canine friendship, proper introductions and close supervision throughout the adjustment period will be important to make sure everyone is comfortable and the relationship develops at its own pace. Alice has tested positive for Lyme disease, but fortunately, she does not have an active infection or current illness. This means she may simply have been exposed to the bacteria in the past; however, she may benefit from a little extra care and monitoring for any signs or symptoms of Lyme disease. And then there's one final thing you should know about Alice... THE EARS. We're not sure exactly how those adorable ears came to be, but we're pretty sure they're going to be impossible to resist. Alice has already shown us that she's a sweet, friendly girl with a wonderful temperament. Now she just needs someone to show her that being found as an unclaimed stray doesn't have to be the end of her story. It can be the beginning. Alice is ready to trade her kennel for a couch, shelter walks for family adventures, and being someone's unclaimed stray for being someone's very much-loved dog. If you're looking for a smart, friendly girl with an excellent nose, an adventurous spirit, and the most adorable ears, Alice would love to meet you. Please complete an adoption request: https://www.hamilton.ca/home-neighbourhood/animals-pets/adopt-or-foster-pet/adoptions Alice has an appointment to be spayed on August 18th. She will be ready to go to her forever home after recovering from this surgery. Animal adoptions and viewing are by appointment only. This allows our Adoption Staff to spend quality time with each potential home to ensure the most successful matches are made between the animals and their new families. *Please note: we only adopt within Ontario

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Alice, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
