Monkey is a 4-year-old, 14-pound Chihuahua mix who recently joined us and is looking for her forever home!Monkey is still figuring out shelter life, and right now, some things feel a little unfamiliar to her. She’ll be looking for a patient family who can give her the time and space she needs to settle in and learn that her new home is a safe place to relax.Once Monkey starts feeling comfortable, her affectionate side comes out. She’s a lap dog at heart and happily jumped right into her handler’s lap for some closeness and pets. She’s easy to handle, attentive to her person, and curious about what’s going on around her. And if there’s a cozy blanket nearby? Even better! Monkey loves to burrow underneath blankets and get comfy.Walking on a leash seems to be a new experience for Monkey, so she’ll need someone who can patiently help her learn the ropes. Toys haven’t sparked much interest yet—she passed on both a squeaky toy and a tennis ball—but she does enjoy soft treats, which may be a great way to help build her confidence and teach her new things.Monkey may need a little time to find her footing, but underneath that uncertainty is a curious, affectionate little dog who wants to be close to her people. Give her a cozy blanket, a welcoming lap, and the chance to settle in at her own pace, and you may just find a wonderful new animal family member. 💕To get started in the process of meeting Monkey, please visit https://azfriends.org/testing/adopt.html to complete an adoption consultation form, and then come by the Adoption Center to meet with one of our adoption counselors. No appointments are necessary and you can come and see us any time we are open. Please go to our website (www.azfriends.org) to fill out a consultation form then come and see us! We do require any family interested in meeting our dogs or cats to fill out a consultation form – this form helps us determine if the dog/cat and the home are a good match, since it is so easy to fall in love with a photo, without knowing the personality of the animal. Once you have filled out the online Adoption Consultation Form, just come in and see us (or come and see us and fill out the consultation form upon arrival)! Please note that ALL dogs and cats are available to the first home that meets the dog or cat that we feel is a good match. In the event there is more than one home interested in the same animal, a lottery may be held that will include all families that are at our adoption center at the time we open the day the animal becomes available. In order to help make the best match, we do want all family members (dogs and humans) to meet any potential new family member. Our adoption center hours are: Closed Sunday/Monday; Tuesday 10a-2p, Wednesday 3p-7p, Thursday 3p-7p, Friday 10a-2p, Saturday 10a-4p. We are located at 952 W Melody Avenue in Gilbert (zip code 85233).All animals are altered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, licensed (dogs). Cats tested for FELV/FIV. Dogs tested for Heartworm. All animals are available to the first family that is a good match, and if we have more than one animal who is a good match, there will be a lottery for all matches. Note that families must have come in to our adoption center and spoken with an adoption counselor prior to any lottery (when we have lotteries, they usually occur on Saturday mornings).
If you have any questions or would like to adopt Monkey, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
