My story

Somewhere along the way, Pumba's story could have ended very differently. Found wandering as a stray in Mexico on July 22, he appears to have been recently dumped before being brought to a shelter. We don't know what happened to him before that day, but we do know this: Pumba hasn't let his past take away his love for people, dogs, or life. This handsome brown-and-black Shepherd mix is already showing everyone what a wonderful companion he can be. Pumba is a friendly, affectionate boy who enjoys being around his people and happily welcomes attention. He is good with women, men, and children, and he has been wonderful with other dogs. When he sees another dog, his first thought is often, "Can we play?!" Pumba is a medium-to-high-energy young dog, so he's looking for a family who wants an active companion to share adventures, walks, playtime, and plenty of fun. He walks nicely on leash, rides well in the car, and is already house trained. He isn't destructive, has no food aggression, and there's no indication that he's a flight risk. He does have a little Shepherd-style commentary from time to time! Pumba may bark when he gets excited or hears other dogs or unfamiliar noises. He is also not a fan of being locked inside a crate, so a family who can work with him using positive, patient training rather than relying on crating would be ideal. Pumba would prefer a home with a securely fenced yard where he can stretch his legs and burn off some of that youthful energy. Apartment living would not be a good fit for him. A home with another friendly dog would be wonderful, too, because Pumba clearly enjoys canine company-but it isn't a requirement. His compatibility with cats is currently unknown, as he has not yet been tested. Most importantly, Pumba is a young dog with so much potential. He has already shown that he can trust people, enjoy other dogs, travel well, walk on leash, and settle into a home routine. Now he just needs someone to give him the one thing he may never have had before: a family who is truly his. Pumba came into the rescue world as a stray in Mexico. His next chapter should be about so much more than survival. It should be about car rides, backyard zoomies, doggy playdates, family adventures, cozy evenings, and knowing he is finally home.
