My story

Looking for a four-legged comedian with no concept of personal space? Meet Barbara! Barbara is a four-year-old Bulldog mix with two very distinct modes:Sweet, smushy girl who wants affection from her favourite people.Full-speed zoomie machine who may forget that humans are not traffic cones.Barbara is very friendly once she knows you, but she sometimes needs a little time to feel comfortable with new people, especially men. Hats and sunglasses can also make someone seem suspicious at first. The good news? Treats are an excellent way to begin negotiations.Once Barbara decides you’re safe, her whole personality comes out. She is silly, playful and always ready to chase a toy. Fetch, however, is not part of her contract. She will happily run after whatever you throw; bringing it back is apparently your responsibility.Barbara knows “sit” and “paw,” rides well in the car on a seat belt tether and has fairly good leash manners. She may pull a little, but nothing too hectic. Passing unfamiliar people on walks can sometimes make her uncomfortable, so she needs someone who will give her space and help her build confidence rather than rushing her.When Barbara gets extremely excited or overstimulated, she can become a little mouthy or jump up on the people she loves. She is easily redirected by removing attention or giving her a clear, firm “no.” She may also hunker down over a favourite toy, so calm trades and respectful handling will help her learn that she doesn’t need to worry about losing things.She loves her food and should continue eating from a slow feeder, because Barbara believes every meal is a competitive event.Underneath all that Bulldog silliness is a very sweet girl who wants to feel safe, play hard and smush herself into the people she trusts. She needs a patient, confident home that will appreciate her big personality, continue building her comfort around new people and give her the clear, consistent boundaries she needs.If your life could use more laughs, more zoomies and one very lovable wrecking ball, Barbara may be your girl.
