Layla, for a certified playmate accepting resumes now. They called me CAULI?! The disrespect started before I even left the shelter. Hi, I’m Layla! I joined the Freedom Squad from Riverside County Animal Shelter, where they named me “Cauli” because of my ears. How mean is that?! Turns out I didn’t even have cauliflower ears. I had some polyps and quite a bit of inflammation happening, but thankfully rescue got on top of it before things progressed to the point of needing surgery. My inflammation has gone down tremendously and my ears were saved! They’ll just need a little extra maintenance going forward—cleaning every few days and keeping Posatex on hand when prescribed by my vet. According to rescue, that should basically be standard equipment in every French Bulldog household anyway. Apparently I need a toy to pee. Mind your business. My toy obsession is absolutely REAL. The second I come out of my crate, I grab a toy and run outside because apparently I cannot go potty without carrying something in my mouth. Yes, I’m potty trained, but there is a process here, people! Toy first, potty second. I go absolutely crazy for toys, and if you’re wondering whether I have a favorite…yes. Whichever one is currently in my mouth. That one is mine, thank you very much. I love other dogs. Sharing my toys? We’re working on that part. I actually get along great with other dogs and I’m really good at socializing. I’m a high-energy, active girl who likes to be involved in whatever is happening, so another dog who can handle my energy could be a lot of fun. I do have a tiny misunderstanding about how friendship works, though. I believe my toys are MY toys. All of them. I need a confident leader who will continue teaching me that sharing is part of living with friends and that playing tug-of-war together is WAY more fun than running around clutching a toy like I just won the lottery. I already love having dog friends—I just need to polish up my sharing skills. Spanky, LOOK AT MY TOY. Spanky? SPANKY?! My foster brother Spanky gets a front-row seat to my nonsense. I grab a toy and trot around him like, “Ohhhh Spanky, look what I have! Don’t you want it?!” Then I wait for the chase. Unfortunately, Spanky is a lazy bulldog who could not care less. I’m pretty sure he’s laughing internally while I continue circling him, desperately trying to get a reaction. His complete lack of participation has not discouraged me. I simply regroup, select another toy and try again later. Eventually I’m going to crack him. I can feel it. Bags packed. Seatbelt on. Where are we going? For as much energy as I have, I’m an amazing little traveler. Open the car door and I’m ready to go! I hop right in, get buckled into my seatbelt, and after the first few minutes of checking everything out, I pretty much settle down and chill for the ride. I’m confident out and about, socialize really well, and honestly, I’m the kind of dog you could most likely take just about anywhere. Patio lunch? I’m in. Road trip? Buckle me up. Weekend adventure? Where’s my bag? I’d love a family that wants their dog to actually be part of their life and take me along for the fun. I have the energy to keep up, the confidence to explore, and once we’re on the road, I know how to settle in and enjoy the ride. If Saturday Night Live had a dog edition, I’d have top billing. I’m actually a pretty awesome little roommate. I’m crate trained, I go into my crate pretty easily when asked, and I eat my meals in there too. HOWEVER, if I can see my foster dad relaxing on the couch while I’m sitting in my crate, suddenly I’m very interested in planning an escape. Excuse me, sir…why are we chilling without Layla?! My foster dad works from home, so he gets a front-row seat to my quirks and shenanigans all day long. If there were a Saturday Night Live for dogs, I wouldn’t just be in every skit—I’d be the main character. At 2 years old and about 23 pounds, I’m potty trained, crate trained, dog friendly, social, high energy, adventurous, an awesome traveler, completely toy obsessed, and packed with personality. I need a family that will keep me active, continue giving me structure around my toys, stay on top of my ears, and most importantly, include me in their life. I’m not looking to sit on the sidelines—I’m looking for my people, my adventures, and obviously…my toys. Layla is spay, vaccinated, and microchipped. Her adoption donation fee is $1150.00, and she is being fostered in Mesa, AZ. You can apply for Layla at freedomfrenchierescue.org.
