At first, this handsome boy can be quite shy and cautious with new people and unfamiliar situations, but once he realizes he is safe, something wonderful happens - his affectionate, curious and friendly personality begins to shine. Hodol isn't the type of dog who rushes into a new situation. He prefers to take his time, observe what's happening around him and decide when he is ready to join in. With a patient approach and the opportunity to build trust at his own pace, he blossoms into an incredibly affectionate boy who loves being included and enjoys being close to his people. And once Hodol trusts you, get ready for affection! He truly enjoys attention and wants to be part of whatever his family is doing. His quiet loyalty is something very special, and watching him gain confidence and discover that he is safe is incredibly rewarding. His Canine Friends Help Him Shine Hodol absolutely loves other dogs and gains confidence from their presence. He currently lives happily with several extra-large dogs, all over 100 pounds, and their size doesn't faze him at all. He enjoys their company and loves having canine friends around. For this reason, a friendly, confident resident dog is an important part of Hodol's ideal home. A canine companion can help him continue learning that new experiences can be safe and fun. Hodol is also a smart, well-mannered boy. He is fully house trained and leash trained, eager to please, and very attentive to his people and looks to them for guidance. When something is unfamiliar, he prefers to observe and take his time rather than react. Inside the home, Hodol is an easy companion. He is non-destructive, has excellent mealtime manners, and has no food aggression. He travels beautifully in his crate and rides comfortably in the car. He has a calm, observant nature and settles well into a predictable routine. He is also a quiet boy, with minimal barking. He may alert you when someone arrives or the doorbell rings, but otherwise he is content to observe the world around him. A securely fenced yard is important for Hodol, giving him a safe place to explore and continue building confidence. He would be happiest in a quiet, detached home rather than an apartment. Hodol would do best with older, respectful children who understand that he needs time and space when getting acquainted. He has not been tested with cats, so a cat-free home is recommended.
