My story

QUICK FACTS Name: Kongdol Age: About 5 Years Old (Born on November 4, 2021) Gender: Male (Neutered) Breed: Chihuahua Color: Black Weight: 3.7kg / 8.1lbs Microchipped, Fully Vaccinated Up to Date, Dewormed   MY RESCUE STORY I was part of a family of five dogs who were deeply loved and cared for in our home. As circumstances within the household became increasingly difficult and unsafe, our family made the heartbreaking decision to ask for help so that we could be protected and cared for. We were welcomed into rescue, where we could begin a new chapter in safety, and now I’m hoping to find a loving forever family where I can settle in and build a happy future.   MY HEALTH All vaccinations up-to-date Neutered & healthy with no known health issues   MY PERSONALITY Hi, I’m Kongdol! I’m a sweet little long-haired Chihuahua who may be slightly cautious when we first meet, but I don’t need forever to decide that you’re one of my people. Give me a little time and I start opening my heart pretty quickly. Once we’re friends, I become an adorable little shadow who loves following my person from room to room just to stay close. People are definitely the center of my world. Dogs? Cats? I’m generally not all that interested in either—I’d much rather focus my attention on the humans around me. I may bark briefly when an unfamiliar person first appears, but I tend to settle down fairly quickly once I’ve had a chance to process who they are. I’m surprisingly clever when it comes to household routines! Once you show me where my pee pad is, I’m quite accurate about using it. I’m even resourceful enough that if the pad becomes too full, I’ll go into the bathroom to do my business instead! I’ve already shown that I’m capable of understanding routines and making good choices once I know how things work. I’d love a family who can give me a little patience at the beginning and then enjoy all the affection that follows. I may need a moment to decide you’re safe, but once I do, don’t be surprised if you suddenly have a tiny Chihuahua escort following you everywhere. After everything I’ve experienced, my rescuers hope my next chapter can be a simple one: a secure home, good routines, plenty of treats, and a family who has lots of love to give.   MY SOCIAL SKILLS · With People: I can be a little shy when I first meet someone, but I’ll accept treats while we get to know each other. I prefer to take some time to build trust before I’m comfortable being petted, but once I feel safe with you, my affectionate side starts to come out—I may even roll over and show you my belly! I’m also comfortable being gently picked up with an arm supporting me under my belly. I haven’t had experience with children under 13 yet, so my comfort level with younger kids is still unknown. · With Dogs: I generally don’t show much interest in other dogs and tend to be content doing my own thing around them. · With Cats: I’ve lived in the same home with a cat for about a week, so I have some experience sharing a space with a cat companion. When I see cats while out on walks, I generally stay focused on my person rather than paying much attention to them.   ENERGY LEVEL & ACTIVITY I have a moderate energy level – I enjoy spending time outdoors, but I’m also happy to settle down and relax afterward. I have plenty of walking experience and good leash manners, following my person well without pulling.   TRAINING & HABITS I’m comfortable with people around my food, but I may growl if another dog approaches while I’m eating, so giving me my own space at mealtimes is best. I may bark when I see someone unfamiliar or when there’s something I want. With consistent guidance and positive training, I can continue learning calmer ways to communicate. My separation anxiety isn’t currently severe, but I may be prone to developing it, so gradually building up my comfort with alone time and maintaining a consistent routine will be important. I may whine when I’m in a kennel, but with continued positive kennel training, I can learn to feel more comfortable settling on my own. I’m comfortable using both indoor pee pads and going potty outdoors.   MY IDEAL HOME I’m searching for a patient, loving family who can help me become the best version of myself. I’ll thrive in a home with: A family that will provide me with a safe haven – where I can decompress, be myself in a stable environment A family that understands my past and is patient with me throughout A family that enjoys indoor and outdoor time together A family that will love and cherish me forever   SPECIAL NOTES Because I become so attached to my humans, it’s important to help me maintain some independence too. Since my love of people makes me prone to becoming very attached, my future family should continue practicing healthy alone-time habits from the beginning rather than waiting for separation anxiety to develop.
