He walks over, rises up on his back legs to lean against you, and stretches himself out long and slow, the way you might stretch after a good nap. He's a quiet, low key young dog whose favorite place in the world is right next to a person.Quick Facts: Breed: Mixed · Sex: Male · Born: May 20, 2024 (2 years old) · Weight: 8.7 kg · Location: Korea · Traits: Calm, affectionate, people oriented · Health: Neutered, vaccinated, healthyBackground: Matha came to us in October 2024 from the Chuncheon city pound. There were no spots open at the shelter then, so he spent his first months at a dog training school, and he moved to our partner shelter in 2026. In those early days he kept a polite distance from people. Living beside them changed him. Now he's the one who comes over first and asks to be touched.Personality: The staff describe Matha as a calm boy with a big soft side. When someone walks into the kennel in the morning, he doesn't rush the gate. He stands quietly and waits his turn. People and treats are his two great loves, in that order. His energy level is low, and when he's on his own he settles into a comfortable spot and rests. New people, new places, and new objects get a short look from him first, and once he's satisfied, he walks over to say hello. The one thing he'd rather do without is a group of dogs playing loudly right in front of him while he's resting. He gives one short bark about it and then goes back to his nap.Compatibility: Matha doesn't make much of strangers. He comes over for a sniff, takes it all in, and heads back to his own spot. He responds the same way to men and women. When a volunteer brought along her ten year old child, he was unbothered. He has no sensitive spots when he's handled, though he doesn't like nail trims.Matha hasn't lived with cats before, so we can't say for certain how he'd do. Knowing his easygoing nature, though, we think it's possible with a slow, gradual introduction, plenty of patience, and enough space for each of them to have their own retreat while they get used to one another.He has lived with dogs of every size, from small to large, and has gotten along with all of them. The friends he likes best are the quiet ones who will just settle down beside him. He shows no guarding at all over food or toys. His heart belongs to people, so he tends to stay near the humans rather than join the group.Behaviours & Training: Matha goes both on an indoor pad and outdoors. He walks nicely on a leash without pulling and pays no attention to other dogs on the street, though a sudden loud noise can startle him. He rides quietly in his crate in the car and behaves well at the vet. Baths and brushing go smoothly. Nail trims are the exception, and he's been known to yelp before the clippers have even touched him. He has no chewing habits and knows his name. A sudden noise outside can startle him into barking, but he stops as soon as someone calls his name. He hasn't shown signs of separation anxiety, and he isn't greedy around food.Health & Diet: Matha is neutered, dewormed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations. He takes monthly parasite preventatives. He has no known allergies and no history of additional surgeries or treatments. He had a dental cleaning in the past, and his teeth are clean with none missing. He has passed the veterinary screening and is healthy and ready for a forever home. He eats kibble twice a day and has not shown any food allergies or sensitivities so far.Ideal Home: Ideal Home: A quiet household suits Matha best. Someone retired, enjoying a calm and relaxed lifestyle, and looking for a sweet, low key companion would be a great fit for him. He'd be fine as an only dog, and he'd also do well with a senior dog or another low energy dog who can keep him company without overwhelming him.Matha has been waiting for his forever home. All he wants is someone to share their life with him. He's such a good boy, and whoever adopts him will be lucky to have him.
