My story

Teddy is currently in a foster home. If you would like to meet him, please email our foster coordinator kris, at kris.gurka@foothillsanimal.org to set up an appointment. Teddy has had a very difficult start to life, and because of his past, learning to trust people hasn’t come easily. He has experienced abuse and will need an exceptionally patient, understanding, and dog-savvy adopter who is willing to let him move at his own pace. Teddy isn’t the kind of dog who will immediately run up to you looking for attention—but with time, consistency, and plenty of love, he has the potential to build a beautiful bond with his person. One thing Teddy knows for sure? He LOVES other dogs! Having a canine companion by his side makes him feel so much safer and more confident. Because of this, Teddy must go to a home with another dog who can help show him that the world can be a good place. Teddy is already potty trained and doggy-door trained, which is a great start! He is still working on leash training, as being attached to a leash may bring up memories of his unfortunate past. His future family will need to be patient and understanding as he learns that leashes can be safe and positive. Teddy is looking for someone who understands that earning his trust will be a journey—not something that happens overnight. He will need patience, consistency, compassion, and a willingness to put in the work. But for the right person, watching Teddy slowly come out of his shell and learn to trust is sure to be incredibly rewarding. If you’re an experienced dog person with a big heart and the patience to let Teddy become the dog he was always meant to be, he may be waiting for you.
