Bruna was rescued from the streets after being abandoned by her family who moved out of Merida and left her behind. While Bruna was surviving on the streets she was hit by a car and found limping, but recovered fully with lots of TLC at the shelter. Bruna is a confident, energetic, and very social dog who enjoys interacting with both people and other dogs. She is comfortable being touched and handled and walks very well on leash. She has spent most of her life living and socializing with other dogs, so a home with another social dog would be beneficial and could help make her transition into a new environment easier. Bruna is very food motivated and may try to take food that belongs to other dogs, but she does not initiate conflict over food and has not shown food aggression toward people. Because she has lived in an environment where dogs have experienced competition around food, structured and separate feeding would be recommended during her initial transition into a new home. Bruna is an absolute 10/10! She is stunningly beautiful with her big honey eyes, adorable pink nose and soft fur. But don't let her lab face fool you, her little legs put her in the low rider category - the perfect little package! She is very calm and absolutely adores attention. She is great around other dogs, and excellent at steering clear of drama. Medical Notes: Treated for ehrlichia & anaplasmosis. She had a mass in perianal area x-rayed and biopsied - results pending but suspected lipoma (fatty lump). Removal scheduled after completion of doxycycline. Good with men: Yes, she has had positive experiences with male caregivers and the male veterinarian Good with women: Yes Good with kids: Yes, older children recommended as her interactions with kids has been limited Good with other dogs: Yes, she is very friendly with other dogs Good with Cats: Unknown House trained: Unknown, she has never been in a house before, however in the area that she is currently living in, there is an interior and exterior area and she knows to go to the bathroom outside on the gravel, versus on the tiled area where she sleeps. House training will be required when she is introduced into a home environment. Crate trained: No Energy Level: Medium Can be handled/touched: Yes, she did well for her grooming and vet examination and absolutely loves attention from people Barker: Occasionally, she responds to other dogs barking but is otherwise fairly quiet Flight risk: Yes, after a long and stressful travel day from Mexico and being introduced to an entirely new environment, with new people and nothing being familiar she will be quite nervous and may try to run. Extra precautions should be taken to ensure she cannot escape a home or vehicle while she settles in. Food aggressive: No, but she does try to steal other dogs' food Walks on leash: Yes, she walks very well on a leash Leash reactive to people or dogs: No Rides well in car: Yes, she has had limited experience in cars but was very calm when she was riding in the car recently Destructive: No known destructive behaviours Needs a home with a yard: Preferred Needs a home with another dog: Preferred, could benefit from another dog in the home but not necessary. She has spent most of her life living around other dogs so it could help with her adjustment period but will adjust on her own as well. Can live in an apartment: Yes, as long as she receives regular exercise and enrichment Please visit our website niagaradogrescue.com to learn more about this amazing pet and to see other available dogs.
