She's a calm, low key 6 year old who likes to do things her own way, and in a peaceful home, you'll get to see that dance often.Quick Facts: Breed: Small mix · Sex: Female · Born: August 20, 2020 (6 years old) · Weight: 5.5 kg · Location: Korea · Traits: Calm, independent, low energy, gentle · Health: Spayed, vaccinated, healthyBackground: Sooyoung was rescued from the Yangsan city pound in June 2024. There was no room at our partner boarding house at first, so she stayed at a dog training school until a spot opened up. Over the past two years, she's made big progress. She still likes her space, but she's becoming more and more comfortable with people and new places.Personality: The staff describe Sooyoung as a little lady with a mind of her own. She's quiet, independent, and low energy, and when she's on her own, she's usually resting. Her favourite thing is a meat treat, and when she's happy, she rolls onto her back for her little wiggle dance. Sooyoung shows her love in quiet ways. She's not a lap dog, but she's happy to relax nearby and keep you company.Compatibility: Sooyoung is a little shy with new people and needs some time to warm up. Once she feels comfortable, she likes to lounge around and stay close to her people, while still enjoying her own space. She has lived with dogs of all sizes, and her favourite friends are calm, gentle dogs who like to rest. She loves lying quietly beside them. She isn't possessive over food or toys, but if energetic dogs play too close, she'll give a short bark to ask for space.Sooyoung hasn't lived with cats before, so we can't say for certain how she'd do. Knowing her calm nature, though, we think it's possible with a slow, gradual introduction, plenty of patience, and enough space for each of them to have their own retreat while they get used to one another.Behaviours & Training: Sooyoung can go potty both indoors and outdoors, though she prefers going outside. She enjoys walks, especially short ones, and she doesn't pull on the leash at all. Other dogs and things passing by don't bother her much. She can get a little nervous in the car and at the vet, but she handles both well, and she has never tried to bite. She doesn't love baths, nail trims, or brushing, but when she's held gently and securely, she does very well. She doesn't like being picked up suddenly, so a slow, gentle approach works best. She doesn't chew on things and has never shown signs of separation anxiety.Health & Diet: Sooyoung is spayed, dewormed, microchipped, and up to date on all her vaccinations. She takes a monthly parasite preventative. Shortly after her rescue, on June 20, 2024, she had hernia repair surgery. She has a dental cleaning scheduled, and none of her teeth are missing. She has no known allergies, no digestive or skin issues. She has passed the veterinary screening and is healthy and ready for a forever home. She eats kibble twice a day and has not shown any food allergies or sensitivities so far. Sooyoung loves her food and is a little overweight, so she'll need measured meals and not too many treats to help her slim down.Ideal Home: Sooyoung would be happiest in a quiet, relaxed home with someone who enjoys a slower pace of life and would love a dog who's content to simply stay close by. She's easygoing and independent, and she doesn't need constant attention. She'll warm up with time, and she'll do best with someone who understands her personality, ideally someone who has cared for a shy dog before. A patient, confident adopter who gives her time and space will help her feel at home. A gentle, laid back dog already in the home would be a wonderful bonus.
