My story

WEACT received a report about dogs whose lives have been ignored for five years in the beautiful island of Jeju and rushed to the illegal dog farm. What was found was a heartbreaking scene. The farm, operated by the owner of a well-known restaurant, was overflowing with mountains of garbage, filth, and cockroaches. Seven dogs were confined in small cages. WEACT could no longer turn away from these dogs. They determined to restore the simple rights they should always have had: clean food, a warm place to sleep, and a life filled with care. Soyeon was one of those dogs. Overall, Soyeon is a smart, affectionate, playful, and well-balanced dog. She learns quickly, understands people well, and naturally picks up commands and cues with very little repetition. She enjoys playtime and showing affection but also knows how to settle down and be patient when needed. Soyeon is expressive about her feelings and communicates clearly when she is uncomfortable, so she would do best with a family that respects her boundaries and pays attention to her cues. She can live happily in an apartment or house as long as she has a loving, comfortable home and opportunities for outdoor adventures. Spend a little time with her, and before long, she will happily come over to show you her adorable personality. Nevertheless, Soyeon does have some clear preferences when it comes to physical touch. She enjoys being touched on areas she finds comfortable, such as her head and body, but she does not like having sensitive areas, such as her rear end or hind legs, being touched. When Soyeon feels uncomfortable, she will let a growl to let the person know she doesn't like it. This does not mean that she refuses all necessary handling. When something is important, such as brushing or grooming, she may be uncomfortable but will patiently tolerate it, showing a surprisingly mature side. She is a girl who communicates her feelings with honesty. If living with another dog, a calm, friendly companion who can match her playful energy while giving her time to build a relationship would be ideal. Good with women: yes, Soyeon is good with women Good with men: yes, Soyeon is good with men Good with kids: yes, older children recommended as her interactions with kids has been limited Good with other dogs: yes, Soyeon is a lively, friendly girl who comfortably greets new canine friends and enthusiastically shows her affection with her whole body. However, sometimes her excitement can be overwhelming to another dog so she may occasionally miss the other dog's signal to stop playing. With continued experience learning to watch and respect her playmate's signals and appropriately manage her energy, Soyeon can grow into an even more polite and well-mannered canine companion while keeping her naturally fun and playful personality. Good with cats: unknown, Soyeon hasn't encountered cats yet House trained: in progress Crate trained: in progress Energy level: medium, walks 1-2 times a day is recommended Can be handled/touched: yes, Soyeon is a social girl who approaches unfamiliar people without much hesitation and quickly becomes comfortable receiving affection Barker: no, only barks when she is excited Flight Risk: no, but it is always recommended to double leash at the beginning to be safe Food aggressive: no Current food: kibble Walks on leash: in progress Leash reactive to people or dogs: no Rides well in cars: yes Destructive: no Needs a home with a yard: not necessarily Needs a home with another dog: not required, but she has lived around other dogs and may do best with a confident sibling Can live in an apartment: possibly Please visit our website niagaradogrescue.com to learn more about this amazing pet and to see other available dogs.
