My story

Note: Leeha is currently in Korea but he will arrive in Toronto on Oct 27 once adopted. For more info about the dog or the adoption application, please click here.Adopt Leeha, the Gentle Dachshund Mix With the Soft, Soulful GazeLeeha will settle beside you and gaze up with soft, steady eyes, and if you pick him up, he’ll happily stay in your arms for as long as you want to hold him.Quick FactsBreed: Mixed breed · Sex: Male · Born: April 2021 · Weight: 7.3 kg · Location: Korea · Traits: Affectionate, calm, cuddly · Health: Neutered, vaccinated, heartworm freeBackgroundIn the spring of 2026, Leeha was rescued from a city shelter in Gwangju, Korea. Even on that first day, he showed no fear of people and was happy to be near them. Since his rescue, he’s been staying at our partner shelter in Korea. He has become more loving and more confident there, and he enjoys people even more now than when he first arrived.PersonalityLeeha is a sweet, affectionate boy who loves people. When someone walks into his kennel in the morning, he’s so happy to see them. One of his favourite habits is to look at you with a long, gentle gaze, and he also likes to tuck himself under a chair to rest. His favourite things are people, treats, and being petted. He loves being held and cuddled, and he’ll stay still and relaxed for as long as you like. There’s no spot on his body he minds being touched. His energy level is low to moderate, and when he’s on his own, he usually sleeps or rests. New people, places, and things don’t worry him. He walks right up to say hello.CompatibilityLeeha loves both men and women. With people he’s just met, he doesn’t make a fuss. He simply walks over quietly to say hello. When young volunteers visit the shelter, he stays calm around them. If he is adopted by a family with children, parents should always supervise interactions to ensure everyone’s safety and comfort. It is important that parents take full responsibility for teaching both their children and their dog how to interact appropriately.Leeha gets along well with other dogs. He likes to sit quietly next to his dog friends, and he doesn’t guard his food or toys. He doesn’t enjoy dogs who are rowdy, have no manners, or try to mount him, so a calm, polite dog would be the best companion for him.Leeha hasn’t lived with cats before, so we can’t say for certain how he’d do. Knowing his easygoing nature, though, we think it’s possible with a slow, gradual introduction, plenty of patience, and enough space for each of them to have their own retreat while they get used to one another.Behaviours & TrainingLeeha goes to the bathroom outdoors. He walks well on a leash and harness and doesn’t react much to other dogs, cars, or motorcycles. He travels calmly in the car and is good at the vet. He’s easy to bathe and brush. He doesn’t like having his nails trimmed, but he stays patient and lets it happen. He doesn’t chew things he shouldn’t, and he rarely barks. He comes when his name is called. He shows no signs of separation anxiety.Health & DietLeeha is neutered, dewormed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations. He takes monthly parasite preventatives. After his rescue, Leeha was diagnosed with heartworm. He completed his treatment and made a full recovery, and his heartworm test came back negative in September, 2026. He also tested negative for Anaplasma by PCR. He has no known allergies and no history of other surgeries or treatments. His teeth are clean. He has passed the veterinary screening and is healthy and ready for a forever home.He eats kibble twice a day and has not shown any food allergies or sensitivities so far. He eats everything well.Ideal HomeLeeha loves people, so he’d be happiest in a home where someone is around most of the time, like a big family or a household where someone works from home or is retired. He’d also be a great match for first time dog owners. He’s easy to live with, and we don’t expect him to have any trouble settling in. He just wants to be close to you.Leeha has so much love to give, and he’s ready to share it with a family of his own. If you’d like to be on the other end of that soft, steady gaze every day, Leeha is waiting for you.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Leeha, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
