My story

Note: Currently Mahma is in Korea but she will arrive in Toronto on Oct 27 once adopted. For more info about the dog or the adoption application, please click here.Adopt Mahma, the Happy Jindo Mix Who Smiles When You Hold HerMahma greets you with her whole body, tail wagging as she leans in and rubs against you for pets, and when you hold her, she smiles.Quick FactsBreed: Jindo mix · Sex: Female · Born: September 2023 · Weight: 13 kg · Location: Korea · Traits: Affectionate, playful, friendly · Health: Spayed, vaccinatedBackgroundIn the summer of 2026, Mahma was rescued from a dog meat farm in Icheon, Korea. She was a mother there, and when she was rescued, she had just given birth to a litter of puppies. Even then, she was friendly and happy to be around people. Since her rescue, she’s been staying at our partner shelter in Korea, where she’s grown to love people even more.PersonalityMahma is a cheerful, affectionate girl. Her favourite thing to do is trot over with her tail wagging, rub up against you, and ask to be petted. When someone walks into her kennel in the morning, she’s happy to see them. She loves people and treats more than anything. Her energy level is moderate, and when she’s on her own, she sleeps and rests. New people, places, and things don’t worry her at all. She walks right up to check them out.CompatibilityMahma isn’t shy with strangers. She goes straight up to new people and starts showing her sweet side right away. She loves both men and women. She loves being petted, and when you hold her, she smiles. There’s no spot on her body she minds being touched. When young volunteers visit the shelter, she stays calm around them. If she is adopted by a family with children, parents should always supervise interactions to ensure everyone’s safety and comfort. It is important that parents take full responsibility for teaching both their children and their dog how to interact appropriately.Mahma gets along well with other dogs. She enjoys running around and playing with dogs her size, making happy little play sounds as they go. She doesn’t love dogs who are overly hyper, and she doesn’t guard her food or toys.Mahma hasn’t lived with cats before, so we can’t say for certain how she’d do. Knowing her easygoing nature, though, we think it’s possible with a slow, gradual introduction, plenty of patience, and enough space for each of them to have their own retreat while they get used to one another.Behaviours & TrainingMahma goes to the bathroom outdoors. She walks well on a leash and harness and doesn’t react much to other dogs, cars, or motorcycles. She travels calmly in the car, is good at the vet, and is easy to bathe, brush, and trim. She doesn’t chew things she shouldn’t, and she rarely barks. She comes when her name is called. She shows no signs of separation anxiety.Health & DietMahma is spayed, dewormed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations. She takes monthly parasite preventatives. She has had puppies before. She has no known allergies and no history of additional surgeries or treatments. A dental scaling is scheduled. She has passed the veterinary screening and is healthy and ready for a forever home. She eats kibble twice a day and has not shown any food allergies or sensitivities so far. She eats everything well.Ideal HomeMahma is friendly and easygoing, so she’d settle in well with almost any family, including first time dog owners. The quickest way to her heart is simple: take her on good walks and keep a few treats in your pocket. She’ll be your best friend in no time.Mahma has so much love to give, and she’s ready to share it with a family of her own. If you’d like a happy, wagging welcome every time you come home, Mahma is waiting for you.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Mahma, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
