Sweet Argelia arrived at a shelter in Mexico after being abandoned by her family and left to fend for herself on the street. She was adopted and brought here where she had a family for several years until they surrendered her due to no fault of her own. She is looking for a fresh start with a family who will love her forever. She is curious about meeting new people and also a bit shy so needs time to feel safe, but once she trusts you, she discovers that being loved and cuddled is pretty wonderful! Argelia is enjoys the simple things in life: relaxing on the couch, lounging in her cozy crate (lovingly called her "house"), and having little bursts of zoomies in the yard or down the hallway. She's a well-mannered houseguest who is housetrained, doesn't chew or destroy things, and is wonderfully easy to handle once she's comfortable. She knows sit, down and won't jump up on furniture unless invited. Baths, brushing, nail trims, being carried, and even getting dressed in clothes and boots are all things she can handle like a champ! This sweet girl would thrive in a quieter, home. A fenced yard where she can feel safe enough to explore, run, and play or access to quieter walking trails would be best for her. A busy urban center may be overwhelming for her as she can get frightened by loud noises and traffic. Argelia will need a family committed to working on helping her build up her confidence. Argelia gets along very well with cats and is submissive around other dogs. She isn't looking for a rough-and-tumble playmate, but rather a friendly, well socialized, confident canine companion to help her blossom and learn that the world isn't a scary place. She could also do well with older, dog-savvy children. At heart, Argelia is a gentle, easygoing girl who just needs patience, and someone willing to encourage her and let her blossom at her own pace. She may not be the dog who runs up to greet everyone, but earning her trust will make the bond you share all the more special. She has already experienced the heartbreak of losing her home. Now it's her turn to find the people who will choose her for a lifetime.
