My story

Meet Mallard!! (case #22078) Part hound? Part Lab? A dash of Rhodesian Ridgeback? Maybe a sprinkle of something nobody’s guessed yet? Mallard is keeping his family tree under wraps, and honestly, we think that’s part of his charm! This one-year-old mystery mix is proof that sometimes the best things come in completely unidentifiable packages. Mallard arrived at the shelter as an unclaimed stray, with more questions than answers and a whole lot of potential waiting to be discovered. Initially, he was a little unsure about new people approaching him, but it didn’t take long for this boy to start letting his guard down. In fact, he’s made some lovely progress in a short time and is now greeting new friends with a loose, happy body and a wagging tail. Turns out, once Mallard decides you’re okay, he’s pretty delighted to have you around! And what a personality this boy has! Mallard is a friendly, bouncy young fellow with medium-to-high energy and plenty of enthusiasm for life. His first few moments out of his kennel can be a bit of a whirlwind, but once he gets away from the shelter building, he settles into a nicer rhythm and enjoys putting that nose of his to work. If there’s a hound somewhere in his family tree, we suspect sniffing out the neighbourhood’s most fascinating smells could be right up his alley! Mallard is still a young dog learning how to navigate the world, so he’ll benefit from structure, routine, positive reinforcement training, and plenty of appropriate opportunities to explore. Obedience classes would be a great way to help him polish his manners, build confidence, and learn how to channel all that youthful enthusiasm into something wonderful. He’s already shown us that he can make progress, and with a committed family behind him, there’s every reason to be excited about what comes next. As for roommates, Mallard may be able to share his home with a tolerant, well-matched dog who can handle his bouncy energy. He’s interested in other dogs, but his enthusiastic approach can be a little intense at first, so thoughtful introductions and good supervision will be important. Because he's still working on his manners and can be quite exuberant, a home without young children would be the best fit for everyone. So, what exactly is Mallard? A hound? A Lab? A Ridgeback? The canine equivalent of a mystery cocktail? We may never know! But we do know that he’s a friendly, increasingly confident young dog who deserves a chance to grow into the wonderful companion he has the potential to be. Got an active lifestyle, a sense of humour, and room in your heart for a lovable work in progress? Mallard is ready to paddle his way into your life!
