Since launching Pet Hunger Awareness Day in 2022, PetSmart Charities has worked alongside partners including Meals on Wheels America and Feeding America® to support pets and the people who love them. Together, we're on track to help provide 450 million pet meals by the end of this year while building a future where every pet family has the support they need.
Why Pet Hunger Awareness Day Matters
Pets are family. They bring comfort, companionship, and unconditional love to millions of households every day.
Yet for an estimated 30 million pets living in food-insecure homes, putting food in the bowl isn't always guaranteed. That's why PetSmart Charities launched Pet Hunger Awareness Day in 2022: to raise awareness of pet food insecurity and inspire communities to come together in support of pets and the people who love them.
Because when families have the support they need, pets can stay healthy, happy, and right where they belong.
Working Together to Feed Hope
Through our partnerships with Meals on Wheels America and Feeding America, PetSmart Charities helps provide nutritious pet food to families through trusted community organizations across the country. This work helps older adults, homebound neighbors and families care for every member of their household, including their pets.
Meals on Wheels America and its local providers help bring pet food and other resources directly to older adults and their beloved companions. Through the Feeding America network, pet food can be distributed alongside food for people, helping families find support for the whole household in one place.
Together with these partners, we're on track to help provide 450 million pet meals by the end of this year. Every meal represents more than food. It brings peace of mind, supports the human-animal bond and gives families more opportunities to enjoy the comfort and companionship their pets bring every day.
