My story

TESSA: 4-Year-Old Old (Soon to Be 5) Yellow Female Lab, Spayed, 70 lbs. Background: Tessa and her canine brother (not littermates) were found wandering the streets of Monterey County and picked up by the local shelter. The shelter was familiar with Tessa's family, as Tessa and her brother had been found and picked up before. Shelter staff does not see the two dogs as a bonded pair. Both Tessa and her brother were raised together from puppyhood and purchased as puppies by the sons of the family. These sons moved out, leaving Tessa and her brother under the care of the sons' parents. After getting off the property and wandering about, Tessa and her brother were picked up by animal control, and this time, the parents said they would not be coming to pick them up. We brought both Tessa and her brother into Lab Rescue. Her brother has been adopted, whereas we sent Tessa to training as she did not pass her dog-dog evaluation. What Tessa's Rescue Rep Says: Tessa is a lively girl. Very good with people and undersocialized with dogs she is not familiar with. She becomes very anxious, excited, and barky when in sight of other dogs – will require ongoing dog-on-dog socialization work. Tessa will require lots of walks and significant exercise in her new home. Adopters must have big dog, rowdy, and active dog experience. As for now, Tessa won't be a dog park/beach dog. However, with the right person and training, it may be possible for her in the future. What Tessa's Trainer Says: Tessa is learning that her crate is a safe, quiet place and sleeps through the night soundly in it. Her ideal home is someone who can handle a large breed female that is dominant with other dogs if allowed to be. She is social with people and when properly introduced, Tessa gets along with male dogs. She is very trainable and is now walking quietly on a leash even when passing other dogs! Medical: Tessa is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on her vaccinations and heartworm negative. If you are interested in Tessa, please contact Rescue Rep Kris at krisellen.nm@gmail.com. Our volunteers donate their personal time & phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Tessa, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
