My story

MEET SOPHIE! There's so much personality packed in this little body - meet Sophie! Sophie is a 12 year old Pekingese who found her way to City of Elderly Love after her owner passed away. She's looking for a special home where she can continue to be her goofy, determined little self! Sophie is a silly girl who may need a little time to fully adjust to her new home before she begins to show her playful side but once she does, she'll have you laughing! She loves belly rubs, loves to romp around, and enjoys long (read: slow) walks around the neighborhood. Sophie will excitedly meet you at the door after a long day at work but may require you rub her belly for a couple minutes too. She is a dog bed connoisseur and loves to try to bury herself with blankets and make herself a little nest. Sophie is vocal in that she grumbles and grunts to let you know that she wants pets, to be let up on the couch, or if it's dinnertime but she never actually barks. She doesn't love to be picked up but also doesn't like to go up and down flights of stairs (can manage a couple) so she may grumble before being picked up but gets over it quickly. She is housebroken but will use a puppy pad if you're gone for long hours. Sophie is currently living with other dogs and cats in her foster home. Besides not wanting to share her food bowls with them (can't blame her), she gets along with them well. She doesn't look to play with them but is happy to share her space! She is currently living with teenagers in her foster home but would likely do best in a home without small children due to her small size and love of naps. Sophie is great at the groomer and happy sits still for her haircuts! We think Sophie would do best in a home that understands her quirks and vocalness. Sophie also has some medical considerations to keep in mind. She has Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD) which causes constipation and requires a prescription diet to manage. She has seasonal allergies and may require medications such as cytopoint injections or apoquel pills during the summer months. She is currently on a low dose of pain meds to help with age-related arthritis. She is fully vetted and received a dental cleaning earlier in the year. Sophie is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love. She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. She is also heartworm and lymes disease negative. Interested in adopting her? Visit www.cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire or email us at info@cityofelderlylove.org!

If you have any questions or would like to adopt SOPHIE!, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
