My story

Ash was surrendered by his owner(s) to a facility, and we don't really know why. What we do know is that he came to us with sure signs of neglect. Upon his arrival, he was quite underweight, and it's possible he was not used to being fed regularly. He may have had to use his own wits to survive. Because of this, he is very food focused, I mean, wouldn't you be? Adopt him and you'll never have to clean food off the floor again- he's your man for the job. He's not picky either. Let's start with some of his best qualities, shall we? Ash loves to be outside in the breeze and the sunshine, he'll roll over for belly rubs and smile at you while you give him the feel-good scritches. He's house trained (!!), leash trained and enjoys a walk. He also enjoys cozy cuddle time, and his crate is his happy place. But back to the food issues. HE CAN BE SNAPPY. Yep- snappy. So, if you're bothered by a dog with a mood, he's not for you. He can be grumpy and possessive. Read that again. Grumpy. And. Possessive. He will not do well in a home with young children, kay? Like, no. Just, no. In a home with other dogs, (and he'd love that) he should be fed separately- maybe in another room or behind a baby gate. He needs time to warm up to new people. He was mentally and emotionally shut down and petrified when he first came into care and requires space and freedom to learn the routine, meet his people and get used to receiving affection. He'd be fine as an only dog, too. If you think you'd be a good fit for Ash, head on over to our website to complete an application. Hang on, tho. DO NOT APPLY if you have small children, if you are freaked out by a dog with a bit of random attitude or if you are gonna get all up in his biz before he has time to get to know you. He's not a lab. He has his own ideas about boundaries and we are going to respect those. This wee wiley man survived on his own, y'all, and he did it with aplomb. It's going to be a minute before he takes off his armor....maybe some of you can relate? If you are interested in adopting Ash, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Ash's adoption fee is $400. All adoption fees go directly to pay for veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. All of our dogs will go to their new home microchipped, altered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and all other medical needs addressed. Almost without exception, our dogs' veterinary expenses are greater than our adoption fees. DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia. Because we are all volunteers, we can consider applications only within an hour of these areas. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Ash, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
