Microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades and are another form of identification should the animal get lost. The adopter pays a one-time $15 microchip enrollment fee.  Microchips are then enrolled with AKC Reunite . The adopter is responsible to update and  change contact information as necessary.   Dogs and Cats still need to have collar with tags should they get lost.
