DUTCHESS has been passed around a lot lately and this has made her wary and shy. She is new and we are just getting to know her. She is probably wondering what happened to her home. Her elderly owner passed away and Dutchess moved in with a foster lady for a few weeks. This person has several cats and couldn’t keep her permanently, and brought her to us. She is a lovely gray and white medium-haired beauty about 4 years old. Dutchess wants no more upheavals in her life, and would like to be left alone. Offers of friendship have been met with swipes and claws. The foster lady says she is a sweet and friendly cat but she takes awhile to warm up to new people. Probably Dutchess would thrive best with an adult woman, with no children and possibly as the only pet. Her foster mom reports, in part: “She was very nervous and agitated the first few weeks, but with a quiet, safe environment she has become a very sweet, loving, playful kitty. She loves attention, pets, kisses and play. She will be a wonderful friendly pet. She slept on the bed with her mom and snuggled with her on the sofa watching TV…. She loves Party Mix Seafood treats. She responds well to treats and petting. I throw treats to her and she runs for them. She loves catnip on her toys…. Dutchess will take a little time to be pet. Very gradually I could pet her head when she ate treats on food, then some neck scratches. After a month I could pet her whole back and tail and give her head kisses.” No one knows what happened to her eye. She was originally adopted as a kitten with one eye. She is still nervous with strangers, especially men. She is used to a quiet, peaceful home, not a noisy, active shelter full of cats, so she is somewhat feisty at times, and doesn’t always show well. Once she has a permanent, stable home again she should calm down. If you think maybe Dutchess might be the right cat for you, then come on over and meet her. 289 West St (Rte 140), Milford, MA 01757 Adoptions every Sunday from 1-4 PM.
