Meet Blue Fanta! This fantastic pup came to us on 09/6 due to his owner sadly becoming homeless and no longer being able to care for him. They described him as "a good pet, happy, energetic, likes walks and playful. Since coming to ACCT Philly Blue Fanta has been extremely shut down and fearful. Staff has observed him being tense and withdrawn in the kennel. Due to these high levels of fear he has been experiencing, we believe Blue Fanta will do best in a calm home where he can relax and decompress. In his past Blue Fanta has successfully lived with children, cats and other pups! Blue Fanta has also had great dog meets since being in our care and has even been observed to be less fearful with another pup. So we believe he will be a great addition to the right pack! Medically he came to us healthy and staff described him as "friendly but shy. Overall this sweet boy is looking for a patient family who will allow him to take time to adjust and feel safe again. Staff note 9/10: "Took Blue Fanta out for a meet, he did so well. He was scared to come out of the kennel but quickly warmed up to the two young women looking at him. We went into the meet and greet room, and his tail was tucked for the majority of the time, but he would come up to me for pets, and then to the two women. Within twenty minutes he went up to them and was pushing his nose under their arm, and sitting next to them. He is incredibly sweet, but sadly still terrified in the kennel. " Staff noted on 09/9: "Blue was lying down in his kennel bed and slowly came forward with a tense lowered body and low hanging head. He retreated when I attempted leashing the first time, but after I pet his chin for a bit he came forward again and allowed leashing. Exited without issue. Returned without issue.I took Blue outside first and he was a bit nervous, checking in with me often but also freezing a bit when I directly faced him. He shook off and did get a bit more confident around me as we walked, using the bathroom and untucking his tail, still keeping it low, and had an open panting mouth. We walked towards the welcome center dogs, but he soon wanted to walk back the other way as there were lots of people outside. He was non reactive to the welcome center dogs barking at him, just looked at them and then kept walking along. We went inside and relatively quickly Blue approached me, and wanted to stay by my side. He would gently sit between my legs, resting his head on me. He allowed all over handling and would gently paw at me and nudge for more. He gave me some kisses on my face, and leaned in for all affection. Blue is unfortunately still very sad, whining often and did not give me tail wags. Had some interest in a treat, but didn't take it. On 09/7 staff noted: "Blue Fanta was nervous when approaching and would growl and retreat. The handler lowered the divider and he laid down with a tense body and was very fearful. The handler slowly slipped the lead over his head and he exited without issue. Blue was very nervous in the room. He wandered and paced the room staying away from us and was whining. He was very avoidant for the first several minutes just whining, pacing, and looking for exits. Blue is terrified in shelter and needs time to adjust. He spent the majority of his play time pacing the room whining and crying frantically. He would come up sniffing us and then run away crying again. I had the other handler grab the leash and I came over by blue and sat down. He cried but then came over and nudged me with his head and climbed into my lap. He allowed me to pet him, continuing to cry and shake, but if I stopped he would nudge me and move closer. He is so shut down and is not sure about trusting us, but if you give him time he will seek out comfort from you and is trying his best to be brave. On 09/7 staff noted: "Blue Fanta was standing at the front of his kennel but immediately retreated when I approached. He was avoiding eye contact, low growling with a low tail and tense body, head hanging low and ears pushed back. He didn't come forward for a treat.
