My story

Meet Layla, a beautiful 2-year-old Border Collie mix with a sharp mind and a sensitive heart. Originally rescued from Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control, she came to Big Dog Ranch in search of a forever home. She has unfortunately been adopted and returned a few times, and each time her adopters struggled to understand the needs of a highly intelligent, protective, and sensitive dog like Layla. Layla has high energy and thrives on mental stimulation and physical activity. She loves walks, playtime, water, and her favorite toys. She is housetrained, walks well on a leash, and knows basic commands. Once she trusts you, she’s also deeply affectionate and loves to cuddle. However, Layla has fear-based reactivity and protective tendencies, especially in new environments or around unfamiliar people. She can also be possessive of food and toys around other dogs, so management and structure are important. Because of her high prey drive, she is not good with cats. She needs an adult-only home with an adopter who has experience with the breed and is comfortable handling dogs with behavioral challenges. Layla isn't for the average pet owner—she is for someone who sees beyond the surface, who is patient, consistent, and willing to work with her at her pace. Layla is still waiting for her person—the one who truly understands her and is ready to give her the structure, love, and second chance she deserves. If you’re that special someone, she’ll reward you with loyalty, companionship, and her whole heart.

If you have any questions or would like to adopt Layla, please reach out to the adoption group directly. PetSmart Charities does not facilitate the adoption process. Thank you.
