Meet Willow! Willow is a 1-year-old sweet girl who was found as a stray dog in Philly on Nov 30th. She spent a few hours in her finder's home while waiting for ACCT Philly and was immediately friendly and affectionate with her finders! Since arriving at the shelter, Willow appears to be confused but remains a happy and wiggly girl. She is very handler-oriented and loves getting pets all over. Willow will definitely need some medical attention as she was found in rough shape, having suffered burns to her back that will require TLC for the charred areas. Unfortunately, based on her hind end injuries, we suspect this was a human-inflicted injury, possibly caused by fire, as the markings appear random, as if torched. Since her history is unknown to us, it is hard to tell exactly what she went through, but her past does not seem to be affecting her, as she is filled with love. Medically on 12/01, Willow was noted to be an incredibly sweet and tolerant girl who is slightly overweight. Willow has patches of singed fur on all four limbs, caudal dorsum, and tail. Upon shaving fur on the dorsum, an ~8 x 25 cm area of charred, possibly devitalized skin is noted. A few patches of moist, erythematous skin are also appreciated. Small circular areas of ulcerated erythematous skin also noted on groin and inner hindlimbs. Burns (deep partial thickness to full thickness) on caudal dorsum - suspect purposely inflicted given pattern. Burns will require close monitoring for development of infection and necrosis, and surgical intervention (debridement, skin grafts etc) may prove necessary. On 12/04, Willow was rechecked for her burns. Staff stated: "Skin on left flank is beginning to slough, confirming that burns are likely third degree (full thickness). Area is erythematous, edematous, and painful to the touch w/ small amount of purulent debris. Willow was medicated with carprofen, gabapentin & amoxi/clav for her symptoms however she is in urgent need of a foster or rescue to help her recover. If you are interested in fostering Willow; she does have availability to get her treatment through the Lichter Fund if we can find a foster who is committed to taking her to Penn Veterinary Hospital to receive her treatments. If you are interested in helping sweet Willow; please come meet her today! On 12/01 staff noted: "Easy to leash. Willow was standing on the opposite side of her kennel looking at me with soft eyes and giving mid level wags. She wiggled right to the front and lowered herself as I slipped my leash on. Exited without issue. Pulls Minimally On Leash. Loose/Allows all handling. Such a sweet girl. Willow loves to be by her handlers getting all the attention she can. She always approaches with mid level wags and stays loose and wiggly with all handling. She loves standing right in your lap and is so gentle all around. She absolutely loves treats, sits for them, and takes them super gently. Fearful during play. Does a little submissive lowered body wiggle. Interest in toys but does not take possession. On 12/01 staff noted: "Such a sweet and wiggly girl! No issues leashing or walking. She lovessss her handler and was very focused on pets and cuddles. She liked treats but didn't show any signs of commands. she allowed handling all over, even though I was expecting her to be more sensitive on her back around her burns. Such a sweet and affectionate girl- hope she can get out soon! On 12/01 staff noted: 'Willow did well for her dog meets for the most part -approached with wiggles and was loose consistently, even lay down at points in a submissive manner. She did give 2 short hard corrections -one where a dog was close to her burns, and one where the other was about to hump. She disengaged quickly but due to the severity of her corrections adding a dog selective/reactive waiver On 11/30 staff noted: "burns on back and rear, splotched pattern, singed hair.
